We arrived home late on Saturday and have been taking it easy since then. There's been lots of rain so the worry is that the paths we run along will be very muddy, but this morning was bright and sunny so off we went.

It's a lot colder than we've become used to so I dug out my warm winter leggings, long sleeved top and running jersey. I toyed with the idea of hat, gloves and buff but couldn't be bothered searching for them. Husband meanwhile was in shorts and t shirt, making me feel a little overdressed. The thermometer said 7C and the garden felt chilly, but I sort of knew that within a km the jumper would be off.

When we reached the fields the tracks were muddy in places, but they are wide enough overall that you can run on the grassy edges that haven't been worn away by dog walkers etc. Lots of evidence of horse riding - hoof prints and 'evidence' ;) if you know what I mean. The sun was warm and I lasted less than half a km before the jumper came off but the long-sleeved shirt certainly wasn't excessive.

One of the fields now has sheep which is a novelty. They just stared as we ran past. The sun was low and dazzling running eastwards, but it felt good to be out.

As always (if I don't listen to music) I had an earworm, today's was 'It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock'n'roll', the bit with the bagpipes if you're interested. I asked my husband if he had a tune in his head. It was the same one. He then decided he wanted to 'listen' to the instrumental from 'Smoke on the Water' and started singing the guitar solo. I decided I didn't want that in my head so thought very hard about 'Running up that Hill'. Goodness knows what the walker we passed thought we were up to 😂

About 1km from home my husband took the keys as he wanted to go a bit quicker than me. I detoured down a path which I judged would take me far enough that I would reach 5km as I reached the road, allow me a 5 minute cooldown walk. To my surprise this worked! I passed the walker we saw earlier. She was running a short distance then walking. I wonder if she was on week 1 of C25K? She sort of had that tentative look I remember. Good for her, either way.

It's good to be home, I've missed those fields.

Sheep are funny the way they stare at you aren’t they YLG? Sounds as though your run was just the thing to get you back into it after your trip. It’s a shame to waste all that evidence but I suppose running with a bucket and shovel could be awkward! I know what you mean about ear worms - a couple of weeks ago I was stuck with ‘The Peanut Seller’ after hearing it at a band concert!

Hmm, running with a bucket - could be practice for if I'm ever ambitious enough to attempt a marathon (no chance 😂😂😂)

I always get an earworm unless I listen to music. It'll either be the theme to a TV series I'm watching or else whatever my husband is practising on his guitar, hence the AC/DC. Very glad I know how to 'change the channel' ;)

Yes, everywhere is so green and lush. I think I avoided more puddles and mud today than I've seen in the last 6 months!
