Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Jenny and I had made a pact to do Eastville this weekend. I stuck to it; she didn’t! She has an Etsy shop and to be fair she was busy packing things up to send …. so I’ll forgive her 😅
What an amazing morning. 😍 Bright sunshine, no wind, but chilly 🥶 Not cold enough to wear long sleeves or long leggings, but capris, my 100 top, gloves and shades were the order of the day.
Loads of runners turned out. So many that the start was pedestrian to say the least. It explains why my time was surprisingly slow (39:13, 38:59 Garmin). I lost at least a minute during the first km, looking at my stats. It didn’t matter as other than that I felt awesome, and loved running up and down the hills, even the steep little one up from the lake. 💪 It’s the first run I’ve done recently where I felt my legs are getting back to normal. Hallelujah, it’s been weeks. 🙏🏻
I don’t know how I missed your post yesterday cheeky. Glad to see that at least you were appropriately attired ! Great that your legs are behaving themselves now. I did mean to say well done on an excellent marathon weekly chat last week; it had a really nice buzz about it.
Hi Damien and fellow pr runners 👋🏻. I wasn’t feeling ‘it’ this morning. My usual Parkrun route was cancelled so I set off for the more local but very undulating park run. It was 4 degrees but lovely bright sunshine - nice and dry. I set off with my running buddy but straight away I felt I couldn’t get my breathing right - it may have been the cold. I said I wanted today to be a nice and slow run that we could finish easily, it felt tough all the way (lots of hills on this park run trail). Anyway we didn’t stop, we kept on and managed a sprint finish (that felt good) much slower than last week but that was fine. ☺️
I did not parkrun today. I have not run in a couple of weeks. But I have been doing plenty of walking with my lovely Ruby (Doggie), it was her first birthday on Thursday. So this morning I did a parkwalk at Trim parkrun with Ruby. It is a gorgeous 2 lap course along the Boyne river with views of an ancient Abbey and Trim Castle which was used for the filming of Brave Heart. It was a gorgeous crisp frosty morning. I came in last place, number 44, I was the only person walking. But I left the Tail Walkers for dust, Ruby and I finished our 5K walk in a time of 44:35. Very respectable walking pace I think.
I'll be back running again tomorrow. I want to be running 5K without a walking break by Christmas.
Good afternoon Damien, it seems that Autumn for me is the season to get PB's at parkrun, last year I got several PB's at a lot of the places I run except Dunfermline parkrun, this morning I ran my 33rd parkrun at Dunfermline, No. 66 altogether in a time of 31.35 a PB there and for the very first I got a +60% age grading of 61.06% despite a few short walks up the steepest of the hills, I am very happy and gets me ready for my first Half Marathon on Sunday 27th November, so I won't be at a parkrun next Saturday.
Thanks JP, I was quite surprised on getting a PB and a +60% age grading this morning, I managed to run up all but the steepest hills, I have only ran 3 sub 32 minutes times at Dunfermline out of the 33 times I have ran there.
Thanks Damien, perhaps part of my training was the 12K walk I went this morning (17,386 steps) part of which is on a half marathon trail route which takes place at the end of October, so no parkrun next Saturday in preparation for my long run next Sunday.
He runs three times a week outside of school. A 7k with our run club, a shorter interval run with our run club and park run. Probably takes him no longer than an hour in total🔥
Wow RW! Congratulations to no.2 son 👏👏👏 It was only a matter of time though. I wonder how fast he’ll get? Really looking forward to hearing how he progresses. Did you get to run?
I wasn’t running park run as opted to do a 5 mile run instead to complete my first 50k week since Covid. I was gutted though as I took it too easy & missed him coming in at the finish line. Hubby was about 6mins behind him in park run. We’ve bought him some super duper carbon plated shoes for Christmas so it will be interesting to see how he goes in them. 🤩
Hi Parkrunners, it was a volunteering stint for me today. I did barcode scanning at Lowestoft. We were about 100 people down on last week. Presumably due to the damp, cold and windy weather. Winter is definitely on its way! I’m going out for my not PR shortly. I’m sat here with all my gear on, just waiting for my husband to get home so I can go out. Luckily the sun is making an appearance so it might be a bit nicer than it was a few hours ago!
My new fingerless gloves definitely helped! I know it sounds silly but I don’t feel like I have proper control of my phone with normal gloves on, even if they are touchscreen ones. So this winter I decided fingerless ones for barcode scanning and timekeeping were the way forward. I still throughly enjoyed myself despite the cold!
Hi damienair and running friends, I’m still recovering from injury at the virtual London Marathon but at least I’m off crutches now. I celebrated by walking the Bognor Regis Parkrun course with the tail walker this morning. I think we put the world to rights while walking around! 😊
It was great to meet Parkrun and running club friends and some of them even stayed behind once they’d finished their runs to cheer me on at the finish line 🏁👏👏 which was very kind of them! 😍
How lovely that your running buddies cheered you on David - it must have been nice for you. Don’t rush your comeback until you’ve seen your physio though.
Hello all! 9c and low cloud here at parkrun time and I chose to wear long sleeves for the first time and long leggings. I think I judged it about right , but my gloves came off within the first km. it was great to see Oldgirlruns running it today in her new 50 red T-shirt. It was my 101st in Southsea, 129th overall. I’ve almost caught UpTheStanley up on 130, but up to now he has missed parkruns in the hockey season, or, over the last year, if he’s been RD or volunteer .
He still amazes me with his 69.5% age grade score. I’m pleased to be 1st in my new higher age group today and it was my fastest time at southsea since April.
Wonderful breakfast at the Beach Cafe followed, and the sun is shining now of course.
Shame you didn’t get our sunshine Dexy, but you were definitely warmer than here as it was 2 degrees when I set out, and 4 degrees during PR itself. Perfect for a hot little trotter like me 😅
You had a great run though, so no biggie obviously. Well done on your great time. 💥😀
No parkrun for me today, as most of our normal volunteers are taking part in the Cleethorpes Maravan (look it up! It looks mad 😜) so I volunteered and was asked to hand out the finish tokens. Only 88 running today, which is well down. Mind you, it is also Gainsborough 10k tomorrow and it was cold, cloudy and drizzly unlike, it would appear, over on the west side of the country!
The first 5 were definitely in competition and looked (and sounded) completely wrecked by the finish (all under 18 minutes). I will stick with my 31/32 minutes thank you 😂😂 I’m going to volunteer each month I think. We get cake 🍰
No run for me today. It poured down on Thursday, so I needed to do my post physio 5k yesterday. It was slow, as in over 36 minutes. In part that was deliberate, but having to wait over a minute to cross a road didn’t help. Good news is that my calf behaved perfectly, not even a murmur; so here’s hoping. Back to a steady build up of distance. Just a two shirt run yesterday, no need for leggings, but there is a hint of winter in the air.
Thanks OGR. As cheeky would say…I am being Captain Sensible! I said that I thought it would take 6 weeks to resolve; it is only 5 since GSR, so I am ahead of target.
More volunteering today, in fact two lots! Its one of those weekends where everything is happening. I was Event Day Course Checker this morning, Katnap was RDing. I ran there and ran around to do the check. There was glass on the course so I asked the man from the council if he could clear it up but he hadn’t done it by the time I came round again, so I swept it up as it was getting too close to start time. He didn’t open the loos up either, so it wasn’t just me that was disgruntled.
I had to get to the other side of town for my Rubbish Friends litter picking volunteering, so as I had already done 2 miles of running I decided to give parkrunning a miss. We’re off to see Ezra Furman in Birmingham tonight so I needed to be take it steady. I grabbed a coffee from the Christmas market (yes, another thing happening today - it’s Christmas light switch on day) and took myself up the canal path to Bishopton. Normally I do the litter picking with youngest kitten but he’s off to orchestra practice today so he couldn’t do either parkrun or this (see what I mean?!).
A couple of hours spent setting up and then picking, and then the walk home. That’s 8 miles in total done. Thankfully marathon endurance still seems to be holding up, so I should still be awake when Ezra takes the stage later tonight 🤣. However, tomorrow is the Big Hill and 10k of running, which could be interesting. The best thing is that it’s been a beautiful day and, like our tortoise, I’m solar powered, so hopefully I’ll still have some charge 🥰
Boys would love that. We haven’t had toad in the hole for ages. I’ve been a vegetarian for the last year so it’s less appealing to me. British sausages are the best 😍
These were Mexican chilli RW, the sausage bling is always from our local butcher - they had quite a kick! I might try the veggie sausage bling one race, if they’re as good as veggie burgers these days they’ll be worth a go 😋
Crikey TC, that’s left me exhausted just reading it! No loos at SoA parkrun, that seems to be a thing - I recall the same thing happened when we had our meet up there!
Hi damienair . Found out only yesterday about a new parkrun near (ish) to me - Ganger Farm, Romsey, so I just had to do it! Flat and mostly run on grass. Most enjoyable and saw quite a few familiar faces on this lovely sunny morning. Will do again as long as it’s in a dry spell. Didn’t push myself too hard as I have a 5k tomorrow for Mo-Running for which I have a stick-on moustache 🥸.
Well done on your new parkrun, it's lovely trying out new ones. I did one that was about 10 minutes away from me but I think it was my third time to do it. Have a great run today.
A bit of a frustrating morning. Last night on facebook the RD posted that the course was partially flooded but the Parkrun was going ahead subject to an inspection this morning. We were advised to expect wet feet. This morning I turned up only to find the Parkrun had been cancelled 10 minutes before because the RD had decided it was too wet.
I didn't have enough time to make it to another local Parkrun. I'll run tomorrow morning around where I live whatever happens.
That’s not good! I was volunteering today, but the RD warned the runners that the water jump had reappeared on the route (Market Rasen racecourse). He said to just run through it on the track, as trying to avoid it by going on the grass was very muddy. Lots of very wet feet!
I (in the pink) had a great time as I had a VRB meet up with the lovely Oldlady64 (in the middle) and her also very lovely older sister at my local parkrun - Albert parkrun in Middlesbrough. We hope to meet up again in the future! It was lovely to meet you OL64!
A bit parky at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning so it was base layer and gloves for the first time since spring. A very pleasant run - a Vegan Runner with a buggy came up behind me with Pinball Wizard blasting out to entertain his offspring, so I couldn't resist telling him the story of how Mrs JP and I were extras for that sequence in the Tommy film back in 1974 (was that really 48 years ago!). Anyway, back to running - I came in at 30.43, one second more than last week!😞 Oh well, there's always next week....
Never mind JP, as you say there’s always next week! Tommy, eh? You never told us you were a film star - I’m assuming it wasn’t you that set fire to the pier at the same time?!
We had a glorious morning damienair, like a few others have said it was colder than it has been of late and I did wonder if I should have worn my gloves! But once I was moving it was fine and while I didn’t run the whole 5km, it was a great morning to be out and I had a lovely chat with another slow runner for the second half of the run, which is what it’s all about isn’t it! As ever, I was tail end Charlie (almost!) coming in 343 out of 352 at a time of 47:15 but, hey, it’s parkrun and someone has to be at the back! And because it was parkrun Saturday, there had to be breakfast with Dexy and UpTheStanley, it’s the law!
