Well after having several weeks where I’ve tried to do various runs and exercises to aid my hip I’ve decided to take a total rest from running to see if that will help. I’ll still do exercises and go walking but running is out. I’ll keep reading all your chats to keep in the loop. Happy running to you all take care and run safely.

I was going to click the "like" button but that just seems wrong. So sorry to hear that you are on the IC, but it definitely sounds like you are doing the right thing.
The time will fly 🕊️
Sorry about your hip injury Scruff55, but you are very wise on not running but I am glad that you can still do other exercises including walking to help you keep fit until you can start running again, nice that you will read all the posts and chat on this forum 👍.
Oh no, what bad luck, rest well and come back string in the New Year
you’re definitely doing the right thing but I can imagine how disappointed you must be. You’ll soon be back running though, it’s amazing how quickly we build our strength. In the meantime enjoy the break, at least it meant that you avoided the heavy rain today!
sorry to hear that Scruff55, keep walking and the time will go quickly - you’ll be back before you know it!
Sorry to hear about your hip. I too have a sore hip. Tried to run through it which made it worse. Now having physio and advised not to run. I’ve kept up with gym and walking. It’s Bursitus. It sounds like a good plan for yours keep your hip strong with walking. Wishing you all the very best for a speedy recovery and pain free hip.
Not the best news, but sensible choices! I have been on the IC in the past for up to 12 weeks and the great news about that, is that the runs wait
Your walks will help and there is a wealth of things on the S and F forum to help keep you supple and in good shape.
Don't laugh but, walking poles for anu longer rough terrain walking could be useful. I say this, because an injury or pain on one side of our body, will impact how we move, We may without realising it, guard our movements. The poles may help to support and compensate for this?
My husband has a knee injury... too many years of rock climbing. Distance , rough terrain walking was tricky and getting trickier for any length of time. A friend here advised the poles and goodness what a difference... we are back to walking as we were, more or less.
Just an idea
Thanks for the info about walking poles. I had wondered about them. I know the runs will still be there 🤞the rest will mend my hip. I’ll take a look at the S&F exercises too. Thanks again 🙏🙏🙏
Why would anyone laugh at walking poles for rough terrain Oldfloss ? It's an excellent suggestion, lots of serious walkers, not to mention ultra trail runners, use them. I have this wild hope that I might find a brilliant Black Friday deal on the really nice but rather expensive trail poles I've been eyeing up!
Some might , a few folk do think they are simply just for walking...but not me, I have some.. for running! ( not ultra) but more serious off road jaunts...just for fun.
After reading a post about them I did some research and found some really great info on a site that I use a heck of a lot.. Claire Maxted... on Wild Ginger Running, is an awesome runner/climber etc, and I watched her sessions on how to use poles when trail running. Then, a forum friend from here recommended some... very inexpensive, but absolutely great. !
When I was really on form I was about to join a local running group who do some quite challenging trail runs at times, but then the blip hit and I was back to square one... but, never say never!
Which poles did you get please? I'm only 5-foot so am after lightweight, folding poles, no more than 100cm if fixed length. Tends to translate as expensive!
I'm 5'2"I got the Lidl ones...on offer..After @Taichaser told me about them..Very light weight indeed...I'll have to check length...
Thanks Oldfloss ! I've never seen trail running poles in Lidl here. All the ones that do what I'd really like seem to be €100-€150 or more! 😱
I could get a cheap pair for around 30 €, I just fear I'd end up having to replace them for longer distances on more technical trails, which is kinda what I was hoping to use them for. Says she who hasn't even run a HM for a year! 🙄
