Haven't posted in ages as I had a period of injury followed by only doing 1 run a week for a while. Since I've been on annual leave though I have got back into it along with cycling. We had 4 days of a cycle tour in Argyll, which was fab and our last day was a 40 miler - which I was very pleased with since I have hardly been on my bike the past year!

The cycling seems to have made a real difference to my running and my legs feel a lot stronger. Since I've been running 5kms for the last while I thought I'd step it up again to get back to 10k. However today my Garmin froze literally a few seconds in and I had no idea where I was with pace, time or anything!

It was a corker of a run though - I felt like I could have run for miles. I'm sure I must have smashed out a PB..... 🀣🀣🀣. So good to feel the magic - happy running all!

How wonderful! and good to read about your run, oh now i’m wondering if i should cycle to strengthen my legs. Good to see you posting runs again

Thanks! I have been dipping in and out of the forum seeing how folk are doing although not posting.

Re the legs - my issue has always been that I never managed to get into doing strength training so I've really benefited from the cycling. If you are doing other cross training then you might not notice as much of a difference as I have?

I love to cycle but it’s busy round here and i have had bikes that i haven’t used so probably not, i guess dance class and daily squats is probably enough

Sounds like a fab run - and yes, the cycling will definitely have helped. Well done!πŸ™‚

I think this will now be my cross training regime!

Ah brilliant Fionamags, what a great run, and who needs tech when it feels that good! And what a lovely photo. Plus nice strong legs 🦡 hurrah πŸ˜ƒ. I’d be interested to see if the running has made my legs any stronger for cycling! When I can remember how to pump the tyres up πŸ˜†. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I remember the first time I did c25k a number of years ago we went cycle touring in France after I'd been running and hubby hadn't been cycling to work as much. For the first time ever I left him behind on the flat. I was still slow on the hills but the puff was way better. So it must work both ways!

Hi Fiona, glad to see your post and that you have been keeping up the running, even if under the radar. You are much more sanguine than I would be about the Garmin malfunction.. I tend to feel that if it’s not recorded I haven’t done it! And I think you have the same Garmin as me, so I hope mine’s not about to go wrong too..😳

Great to hear you’ve been cycling.. which I’ve just started myself, although at the moment very lacking in confidence and I’ve fallen off a couple of times.. into brambles and nettles..🀣 Riding 40 miles is brilliant.. the longest I’ve done so far was just over 8 very slow and careful miles on the Cinder Track.. but I’m hoping to continue and strengthen as you have done..

Sounds like you had a great run.. hope the Garmin performs as well as you do for the next one..😊

The cycling might be a brilliant thing for you Peggy since it is low impact. Keep at it and you'll soon build your confidence.

A 40 mile a day cycling tour ... Wow no wonder your legs are feeling good πŸ˜‰ It sounds wonderful though.Tech is SO annoying when it doesn't work but in my book the main thing is enjoying the run and it sounds like you had a great time πŸ˜„

Enjoy your running and your annual leave x

that's weird, I thought I had replied to you but it seems to have disappeared! More tech fail...???? Thought I should confess that we only did 40 miles on the final day after building up with much shorter runs. But it definitely helped the legs - I am really delighted with that!
