Am enjoying our 90 days in France since early July. We’ve been travelling in our motorhome with me doing three 8-10k runs a week when possible. On the South coast of France, the temperatures were often 25 degrees at 7:00 am when it was getting light and I found it just too hot to run. Sleeping was difficult enough!
And then in Marseillan, on an attempted 8k run, my knee started hurting. So eased off. Left it for a few days only to find the other knee started complaining. So had a couple of weeks off, taking lengthy walks when the temperature permitted and plenty of swims in the sea.
Now back in Burgundy, it’s much cooler and I started with my early morning runs. 7:45 is a bit later than I’d like but it’s too dark still before then. So have managed a couple of 6km runs and today went up to 8k. No sign of the knee pain on. So will keep this up until the 14th when we have to return to Blighty.
I’ll miss the quiet French lanes and countryside but looking forward to being home and getting back into my normal running routine.

well done in keeping up your running anyway, especially being away from home AND with knee pain. You’ll soon be home to run in folks old rainy Britain again 😂
thanks for the reply limberlou. Yes, we’ll be back in autumnal UK on the 20th. Looking forward to my early morning runs along the Ouse in York. Hopefully free of knee pain!
That’s my dream right there. A motor home tour of Europe! I’m in the very early stages of planning it for next September. I’m thinking of hiring rather than buying though.
I’m sorry your knees are hurting. There’s some very good research on the effects of Bromelain specifically on reducing knee pain. Seems to be effective for those with osteoarthritis but It’s worth a look. It occurs naturally in pineapple juice but is concentrated in the stem.
Thanks for the reply and information on Bromelain. Hadn’t heard of that so will read up on it. Thanks for the link.
Motorhoming in Europe is simply fab. So much better than in the UK mostly because of the reduced traffic and better attitude to motorhoming. Plenty of aires in most villages and tolerance not found at home.
Hiring motorhomes is very expensive but it will give you a taste of the experience. We’ve only been doing it since 2015 but we’ve been to Greece (our favourite so far) Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands and of course, France.
Good luck with your plans for next year. Any tips, just ask.
