Did another 3km yesterday, a shade quicker but didn't feel like going further. It's still very warm. Maybe I'll do Parkrun on Saturday.
An unrelated question: a lot of us love the NRC app but I've never noticed anyone mention they wear Nike shoes for running. My local running shop didn't suggest them after my gait analysis. I know elite runners wear them, are they just too technical for the likes of me?

I don't wear Nike but I'm pretty sure that at least one person over on the Marathon forum does.
My perception is that Nike's brand strategy is to create lower-priced footwear in their fashion ranges and keep the development of specific running footwear for the top end, using elite road and track athletes to promote it.
Someone posted a video on one of the HU forums about some running woman who'd got her Mum to try one of Nike's latest Zoomi-Flyi-thingies on a parkrun course and lo and behold, Mum got a faster time. So the shoes were perfectly suitable for a non-elite runner pootling around on tarmac. Whether or not it's worth shelling out the extortionate price of the shoes in question, just to run 5k a weeny bit faster, is the real question.
They’re crazy money and not required for most runners Mind you there are some v fast speed merchants using the Parkrun as their test bed on a Satdy morning 💥🔥🌪
They are a fashion statement I think among club runners. I saw loads at my recent hill race - amongst the guys. They all wore the same sliders too after the event. Boys with their toys 🙂
Other makers make carbon racing shoes bear in mind. I’ve got a cheaper Saucony Endorphin Speed 1 nylon plate racing shoe which was a sale bargain. I wore it for my marathon but I ended up with shredded toes 😖 I only wore them as my Nike Pegasus wore out sooner than planned. To be fair I killed them in an earlier trail race ☺️
Radio 4 have a series called Sliced Bread where they check out whether some 'innovation' is hype or actually has any benefits. One of the products they investigated was carbon plate trainers. I’ve got some Pegasus trail 3s that I really like. Most of the time I’m not running on that sort of terrain but I’d definitely recommend them.
I’ve got the Shield version of the road shoe and I wear them literally to death - both on road and trail. I blew the heel unit on a half marathon ☺️ Got another pair though which I’m currently using On the lookout for a sale pair now. My last pair were £50 from the Sneaker Outlet. I only ever buy sale shoes. There are always bargains out there 🙂🏃♀️
I love them. They’re my favourite pair for wearing round and about (which I try not to do to extend their lifetime!). They’re also very pretty as well as comfy! Thanks for the tip about Sneaker Outlet. Will have a look 👀

I am always wary so I checked them out to make sure they really exist and they have a real bricks and mortar shop 🙂. When I got the £50 pair of shoes I checked them against the same model I’d worn out to check they were not fakes (if one can 🤷♀️). They seemed right and I’m still wearing them and happy 🏃♀️
I buy only sale shoes but cos I’m pinching pennies I always do my homework before clicking “buy” 🙂
I have a pair of older Nike Pegasus of which I used to be very content. I say used to,?because I now find them too small. Stupid me bought them (years ago) same size as my regular shoes. Now I know why I used to get a sore big toe after running 10K. But besides that stupid mistake of myself, the shoes are very good!
Yup, you’ve got to size up. Only a half size for me with the Pegasus. Great shoe. I always own at least one pair. 10mm heel offset but I prefer a lower drop generally
I’ve been wondering about running in a higher drop for marathon training. The highest drop I’ve currently got though is 5mm 🤔
I ran marathons in 10mm Pegasus, an 8mm Saucony and a 4mm Saucony The 4mm Saucony Kinvara 5 was the best result for my feet 😁.
I’ve got a 5mm On cloudsurfer too but don’t use them for anything over 8k.
I stopped using 12mm Brooke’s when I suffered a stress fracture Physio recommended using a lower drop. I like the zero drop Altra’s but don’t think I’d run a marathon in them Never say never though as I love my current Torins - which got me to 22.36k last weekend
So many shoes to choose from 😵💫
It’s great you can run in a mix of drops. I was recommended Brooks after a gait analysis. They hurt my knees which is why I’m now nervous about higher drop shoes. I’m super keen to try the Saucony Endorphin speed 3 for marathon training. I don’t think I’ve got any shoes in my current rotation that I would go pass HM in.
My husband got me a sale pair of the Endorphin Speed 1. I had to run my marathon in them as I had no other choice, my Pegasus having bust. I wouldn’t run a marathon in the Speeds again. My toes were a mess afterwards 😬. They’re very fast but really bouncy. I think fast shorter races would be fine for the Speeds.
I’ve not worn them for a while as I mostly do training runs on the trail in my Pegasus Shield or the Altra Torin 4 (a road shoe that seems happy on dry trail)
That’s good to know. I probably won’t risk trying the speeds based on your experience. I don’t think that I’m going to be running my marathon fast so maybe the Clifton is a better marathon option for me. I went through two pairs without injury before I moved to Altra’s 😍
I don’t know if it was the nylon plate, or the fact that the course was very wet. Maybe a combination of both. They are sponge-like I’ve noticed, sucking wet up at the toes. I use them in the dry now. Running fast downhill in them is kamakazi as they’re so bouncy 😁. Bloody fun though 😀🏃♀️🌪🔥.
I’ve got a road 10km in October so I’ll use them for that.
I love my sale Altra Torin 4 😍. I know they’re really a road shoe but I run trails in them all the time (dry ones as they’re not v good on slick stuff). Hanging my nose over another sale pair as mine are battered now
Thanks for the info on the speeds! So helpful. I’m on my second pair of Torin 5’s but the tongue is awful. I also don’t think that I could run anything over a HM in zero drop. I know some people run ultras in them. Hope you manage to grab a bargain 😍
The 4 is fab! It’s the winter one so a bit warm, although I’ve managed during our unusually warm summer. I happily run half marathons in these but I wouldn’t run a marathon in them - although I wouldn’t rule it out as they’re light enough. I have been wearing Torins for ages though.
I just binned my original pair, having dog walked and knocked about in them for ages.
I’ve spotted the same Torin 4 in the sale but want a Nike Pegasus shield 38 and can’t have both 🤔. Decisions, decisions 😀. I think it’s got to be the Nikes for my upcoming marathon which has quite a bit of muddy, slippery trail along its route

I always have a pair of Nikes in my rotation 😀. At present I’ve got their Nike Pegasus Shield. I’m on my umpteenth pair! I am using the 36th iteration and looking for a sale bargain 38th. I’ve spotted a £60 bargain 🤗. It’s a weatherised road running shoe. I use it on the trails and roads. It’s at home on both. On slick, wet pavements it’s dead grippy. It copes with some mud on the trails too. It keeps dust, wet and grit out really well. Not bad for a road shoe 😀
I don’t bother with the Nike carbon racing shoes as I can’t afford silly money. They’re for those wanting that competitive edge, which ain’t me 😁. I assume you mean the likes of the Next% 🙂
The unweatherised Nike Pegasus is a good shoe too If you like more cushioning the Vomero is plush 👍
I’ve got some Downshifters too but they’re too gorgeous to run in as are my Elite racers 🥰. I go out in them ☺️ Both were gifts from my DIL in the US

I have a number of pairs of Nike trainers (too many to admit to! 😂), and have only been running in Zoom X (a kind of Nike foam / midsole) shoes since last October.
Since January my "training partners" have been a pair of Tempo Next % (for faster days) and Invincible Run (for most days). I'm over 300 km in the Tempo and just shy of 500 km in the Invincible.
I love them for the super soft feel and the protection they give my legs, and how fresh my legs feel the next day. Also the nylon plate in the Tempo make them very springy. (I also have carbon plated Alphafly and Vaporfly shoes which are even springier but wear them rarely).
Most of these shoes I bought half price, sometimes less, like £120 for a pair of Alphafly. (Versus £270 rrp).
This is not to say "Nike are the best", I'm not an expert on shoes, just for me, having tried various Reebok, Puma, Under Armour, and Adidas trainers, the Zoom X shod shoes really hit the spot.
Edit to say -- lots of sharp deals at the moment on many brands. A quick look on the Web and I can see Nike Alphafly around £105, Invincible 2 £80something, Peg 39, Peg 38 shield around £50 ...
I’m shopping exclusively in the sales. Pegasus are always available but the Shield version is harder to find. I’ve just spotted a pair though but they’re about £65. My last pair were £50 though so can’t complain especially as they were a gift 😀. I want a pair of invincibles but not til they’re way cheaper. Until then I’ll pass
Nike seem to me to be very well made, particularly around the heel, inside and out, and around the collar.
Invincibles are great. Cheapest I have seen them are on Nike website (I bought some half price last Christmas) and Keller-Sports, who are in Germany, but I've bought a number of shoes from them with free shipping under their Premium membership scheme, and had no problem - delivered by Hermes / Evri.

I find Nike shoes too narrow near the toes - I chose New Balance as I could instantly feel how comfortable they would be 🙂
I don’t get the obsession with narrowing the toe boxes. It drives me mad!Nike and Saucony do it. I stopped wearing Saucony Kinvara ages ago because of them narrowing future iterations, and with kitchen paper-like uppers🤷♀️
I am avoiding Nike Pegasus shield 7 because they narrowed it 🤨

I normally find Nike quite narrow but I tried on the zoom x invincible run 2 flyknit the other day & it was quite roomy in the toe box. I had to size up 0.5 from my usual running shoe though.
always size up to allow for your feet swelling. On long runs you’ll be glad of some expansion room 🙂
