I really don't understand how August got to end so quickly......where did it go? Almost into September.
So! How was the August Quest for you? There were some fabulous comments from people and lots of lovely running. What an amazing summer we have had weather wise, this made running hard work because of the heat but it's been great to be outdoors enjoying warmth and plenty of vitamin D.
For me August was a bit of a reset, more regular running, following a Half Marathon Plan and running stronger.....Thank you all for being here and encouraging me. For Willow he decided he doesn't really want to run any more so has been coming out with me and walking.
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
Some popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............
And the end is nigh. I've written 4 weeks in August so hope nobody minds me wrapping up with another post.....I'm getting all excited and wondering who will be hosting the Quest for September, what do we have to look forward to? ooo cooler mornings and evenings, hopefully sunny days but lots of rain to because everywhere is dust dry.......
A big thank you to Instructor57 for asking me if I'd like to host this months Quest, it's been a lot of fun and I've really enjoyed reading all the comments, and thank you all for joining in.
Have fun whether you are running or resting.
The highlight of my month was going to London, so have included a photo of the buildings as we were getting close. What was your highlight?

Thank you so much for hosting us so well in August. I am not surprised that your highlight was London with that ABBA concert and a city run.
I am pleased to say that I ticked all my boxes this month with reaching 10k this morning on the lovely Hayling Island Billy Trail. I am now horizontal, drinking water with high 5 in it. I’ve run 10 times this month, including 2 tourist parkruns. I even made it to 1 Pilates class but realised that I’ve got a lot of catching up to do to get to where I was pre-pandemic.
My highlight was a week staying in Herefordshire , where UpTheStanley and I got to run in the countryside, watched by horses 🐎 🐎, sheep 🐑 🐑 and cattle 🐂 🐄. It was that really hot week though and we couldn’t have been further from a refreshing sea breeze. I’m sure that the animals under the shade of the trees thought we were bonkers ! We were close to the Shropshire and Welsh borders and also got to walk along the famous Hergest Ridge (Mike Oldfield album).
Lovely pic Dexy5! We often stay in Herefordshire as are fixing up my Dad's old house there. It's near Hergest Ridge but we're yet to visit as it's a big walk with younger children in tow - hopefully next year. I've had some lovely runs through the Herefordshire countryside though and it's beautiful.
You have had a great Quest.. despite Willow now becoming a walker to your runner:)Thank you so much for this Quest. I had a simple one, to just keep moving and get at least one run a week in... I have managed two, most weeks!
The posts here and the replies have kept me going, with that wonderful feeling of support and friendship... I got a run in , here at the coast yesterday ( post follows later).
Thank you so much for hosting the Quest Sola 😊. I have watched in awe as you have run on consecutive days, after work, and in the heat this month! You are the queen of quests and no mistake.
Well, in all honesty, the heat scuppered a fair few of my runs this month, as I’m sure it did a lot of people! So the fact I’ve managed to hit my km goal is pretty amazing really. As to September, well, it’s my FAVOURITE month - cooler, lovely colours, etc. So I am hoping to start it off with a bang tomorrow and run a 2nd day in a row for the first time ever. Have been running for about a year and three quarters now, so it ought to be ok especially if I just keep it slow and on the flat.
I am on holiday twice this month, so will need to bear this in mind if I want to keep chugging along. We are going to Portugal at the end of the month to where we went last year, and 1 quest I have is to tackle some of the very steep hills that rise up from the coast! It gets very hot very fast, so will need to bear that in mind. Plus it’s super cobbly underfoot so will need to be a bit careful too. 😊😊😊
Whoa 😳 that’s very exciting to look forward to. And you’ve had a good August so September will be amazing. The first few times I ran consecutive days zi just ran 20 minutes, everyone is different but I do know the second day either needs to be slower or shorter, wishing you a great September of running
I’m a bit like you, start well then life takes over and the end of the month comes before i realise and haven’t don’t much, maybe i’ll stick with it a bit better in future Good you got a run n today
Thanks so much for hosting this month SueAppleRun and well done on being consistent with your running! My 4th week of August quests have gone well.1) NO - run 3 times a week - only ran twice due to a twinge in my foot - I think probably due to twisting and turning whilst playing Netball but I'm glad to say that I'm better now
2) YES - continue with Garmin coach HM training plan for event in November. And have even entered the HM November event now so no excuses!
3) YES - do at least 2 cross training sessions a week - one should be strength. Did exactly that - played 2 netball matches back to back on one day and did all over body strength training with weights on another day
4) YES - do at least 2 parkruns - one should be completely new. Ran at 3 parkruns - one was completely new (Coventry) and also volunteered at one.
5) YES - have at least 1 rest day. Actually had 3 rest days.
My highlights this month were getting my 25th milestone parkrun t shirt and taking part in Coventry parkrun - it was a fantastic event - lovely sunny day, great atmosphere with almost 500 runners, very well organised, Met some interesting parkrun tourists - 2 brothers who between them had run almost 900 parkruns and one of them had run over 400 different parkruns worldwide. Saw a young man with a guide who absolutely flew past and who had done over 250 parkruns - and there was a shout out for an 81 year old lady who had reached her 250th milestone - all absolutely mind boggling and very inspiring!!!.
Hi Sola! I don’t remember if I signed up for the Quest to be honest, but really well done on hosting this month. 🙏🏻👏👊
Whether I did or didn’t, I’ve done plenty of Questy things. I’m following the NRC HM Plan (this time with the 10 mile GSR in mind) including a long run of 15k. I’ve been fairly regular with my yoga, both at home with Adriene and at the gym. I’m loving my hour long class with Hannah on a Friday morning, and I thank Adriene each time as she taught me well, and I don’t feel like a total numpty!
I ran a 10k race last weekend, so more bling for the hanger, and then there’s the excitement of many running things to look forward to in September including 2 more races. 😀
So Quest complete, whether official or not! Thanks Sola!
Thanks so much for hosting SueAppleRun . I’ve really enjoyed your posts. August was always going to be a bit of a tricky month for me and it’s definitely been up and down. I hardly ran/moved for two weeks in the middle with illness, busyness and general life. Yoga didn’t happen. Strength and flex was a few sporadic hiit classes.
Picked back up slowly last week and ended on a massive high with getting under an hour for 10k for the first time and taking half a minute off my 5k best time during my first ever 10 mile run. 7 weeks to my first HM which is exciting and slightly scary. I feel like I’m actually going to be able to do it now. Plus I bought new trainers…
Under an hour for 10k????? that’s awesome and you deserve the new shoes, after reading about them and went off to read up about them and all I can say is not jealous at all, no no no ( liar liar 😂) they look really great
I think my quest for September needs to be getting back into reading/replying to HU posts 😂 I used to check in here every morning over breakfast but I've got out of the habit, which means I miss so many inspiring stories. Plus if I got back into the habit I might remember to reply to quests 😂🤣I found it difficult getting back into the running habit post holiday and felt I'd lost some of the joy of running, so that was this month's quest. I think I'm getting it back, it's still a bit of an be effort some days but the cooler weather will definitely help.
I always love reading about your runs and snippets of your life and am truly in awe of people like you who manage to fit running into a life that includes going out to work.
On a separate note, how oh how did you manage to drive there on an empty road?! I get stuck on approach to the Blackwall Tunnel more than I can remember. It’s one of those where it’s quicker to run…. 😅
Blimey, where has that month gone? Thank you very much for hosting.
I think my August quest was a reasonable success.
I ran, I stretched, I didn't get injured so that is a win in my book. I've also enjoyed being a ParkRun tourist as well.
And did my longest run for a while on Monday. A 9km which should have been simple but somehow managed to get lost! In my defence, we have only been living in our current location since lockdown 1 so still finding new (and confusing) routes!
Hopefully I can continue to not get lost 😂 on my runs and stay injury free 🤞.
Thanks for running the Quest this month Sola, I've especially enjoyed all the varied photos and have looked forward to each week. Bravo for getting your head round solo running.
I am delighted to say that, I think for the first time in too many months, I have fulfilled all my Quest goals
1) Virtual Runner RunWild Challenge which was to do something every day. This was (surprisingly?) tough and I'll have to see whether my evidence was accepted as it doesn't all show 'distance'. But in my eyes I've achieved it and it's been good - pushed me to do yoga more often as that was a good way to 'keep up' if I'd not managed to do anything else that day, and a few different activities contributed including swimming in the sea and a pedalo.
2) Virtual Runner Sunflower Challenge which was any distance. I didn't get many runs in and they were short so today I made the effort to do a 5K
3) And I am pleased to say the holiday weight is OFF.
