As I posted last week, I’ve adapted the programme a bit so that I’m counting my GoodGym task runs as the short run.

My 30 minute run ended up being 31 minutes following a Nike Run Club run: Breaking through Barriers.

And today I did the 50 minute Nike Run Club: Mindful Miles run. The route I’d planned would actually be better for a 55 or 60 minute run as I had a 15 minute walk home at the end. A bit ambitious!

Both of this weeks NRC runs were with Andy Puddicombe, of Headspace, and both were nicely put together and thoughtful.

I was very slow running today, but that was partially by intent, as I haven’t tackled a 50 minute run before and wanted to succeed at the time. The speed will come later as I build confidence in my running ability. It felt good to be out. And I saluted the Steve Ovett statue on the seafront as I ran past it.

And now I have some rest days ahead of me 😍

Speed will indeed come later, and my personal opinion is that speed is overrated when it comes to maximizing the enjoyment of every run! Happy running!

I found myself getting faster naturally when I was regularly doing long runs of over an hour in duration. It's wise not to chase speed at this stage. If you really want to do any speed work, keep it short: intervals of a couple of minutes maximum as part of a shorter run.
