Do you know the cause?

I did not run all of last week. The weather has not been great but the real reason is I just didnot feel like it. My sister kept reminding and I kept making excuses.

This week the weather has been even worse with rain, flooding, wind, a weather warning for almost the whole country. Day before yesyerday, after working till late and exhausted, I stepped out of the office in darkness, rain, cold & super winds (again) and decided (again) not to go for run. By the time I reached home, I had scolded myself for making excuses and prepared myself to go for atleast a walk as my sister has registered us for a upcoming running event next month.

I put my old walking shoes on, rain jacket and stepped out in rain and wind. After about 5k brisk walking, started running to make it home quicker as it was a bit of less busy road. A 5k run and came home wet and cold, had stepped into many puddles as I could not see them in the dark. Yesterday, was even worse weather (if thats possible) and I decided to still push myself out of the door for atleast a short walk. Came back from the walk, showered, had dinner and off to bed. I could not sleep though, there was a burning sensation, like a carpet burn on the outside of the left foot, on top of the foot, on the pinky toe of the right foot. It was bad enough to keep me awake. So, I put some moistutiser on those areas. Today whole day I have experienced that burning feeling in same areas. The pinky toe is red but other areas look normal. I have run in rain before so dont think it is due to wet shoes.

Anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what causes it and any precautions or remedies for it?

It's a bit early for trench foot to have set in. 😆

It's most likely that your socks have been rubbing your feet. What material are they made of?

Dont know, cotton? I just wear the normal everyday socks you get anywhere for about $3 a pair.

Cotton is not good when it's wet. You're better off with synthetic fibres when the conditions are wet.

As nowster says, that's almost certainly your answer Me_time . Wet cotton stays soggy, whereas synthetics will wick away the moisture and you're less likely to get friction problems.

You don't need to spend a fortune, though good socks will last anyway. The link in CBDB 's post should give you some pointers - unfortunately the retailers are primarily UK-based. Hopefully you've got running shops near you.

Ron Hill does have a New Zealand site: ronhill.co.nz/ (looks like they currently have offers on socks too!) and of course there's always Amazon. Happy shopping!

Oh lucky you! They drive me mad after cold, wet winter runs here in Wales 😣. I hope you sort your feet out soon!

You’ve probably seen this post which - in the replies - has some different recommendations for great socks for running. So o thought I’d provide the link to that post again, in case your burn was a sock-related issue (I wear injinjis and hillys): healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
