We are planning to go away yet again, the ferry was all booked for tomorrow. This meant that today I had to organise all the stuff associated with a road trip across Europe. Turned out I needed 4 new tyres (ouch but not something you can skimp on for a journey like that), plus beam reflectors (left it too late to order off Amazon) and an international driving permit, all needing arranging today!
Plus I'd arranged ages ago to meet a couple of ex work colleagues for a long lunch. Plus a much delayed dental appointment first booked for March 2020! So what did I do first? Yes, started the day with a run
We agreed to only 3km as I had so much to do (did I mention that 1st of the month is my busiest day at work and stuff had to be done for that as well?) so we set off before 9, early for us. We haven't run that route for ages. I let my husband set the pace and he was a little bit faster than my comfort zone but that was OK, I was in a bit of a rush and it was only 5k.
1.5 km in we came to a fork in the road. Instead of going straight ahead for the most direct route home we went left, just because we could. Husband is very good at judging distances so I told myself he'd know when to turn back. We ran for a while, past a field covered in geese (see photo), then turned around and as we reached the sea wall (just over 1km from home) the NRC app told me we were at 3km. Sneaky so and so, he'd slipped an extra km without me noticing. I didn't mind though, it was just good to be outside in the countryside.
We reached 4km and he carried on running but I walked the final couple of hundred metres home.
Happy to report that after this I got everything done. At 8pm I was halfway through packing but decided I ought to cook dinner. My husband called his mum to say we were coming and it turns out she has a houseful of guests so we decided we'd delay setting off for a day so that she has room when we arrive. Woo hoo! This means that tomorrow all I have to do is pack a few more bits and bobs, buy some Yorkshire tea and take it easy because I got it all done today
