Teary over just trainers!

Three weeks ago or so I posted after a Sunday morning run. It’d taken me along the country lanes, past the horses, sheep, and cows I’d sort of got to know over the past couple of years or so.

Later that day, putting away my grey running trainers, I had a moment. You know the ones, you have something big ahead of you that you just have to do but rather wouldn’t. You might remember that the Big C over the past few years had ravaged my belly shape, and abdominal reconstruction was imminent. I’d received some comments along the way as to why somebody my shape would ever want to run. So, as I put my grey trainers away, I wondered if I’d ever use or even see them again.

I came out of hospital on Wednesday, shape fully restored and although sore, I sort of felt I’d closed the box on the past few years. Ahead of my departure from hospital I’d asked my partner to bring in some clothes for me to wear. Out of the bag came a suitably loose top, and an equally loose pair of track suit bottoms. Then, ‘Oh!’ she said, ‘I thought you’d quite like to wear these’. Out of the bag came my grey trainers, I could have cried.

So, by way of a brief report of my first bit of activity post op, the ground was level, no cows or sheep, but a fully stocked car park. I managed the walk to the car in about ten minutes or so, bit slow, but I’m underway again and I can’t wait to run around the lanes just as soon as I am able.

Thank you to this forum, and you all for the great support along my journey. I’m ever grateful.

That’s so good to hear 😊. Well done those trainers (and your partner!). I hope you get to wear them again soon along those lanes, as you say hello to the horses, cows, and sheep! Here’s to a strong recovery 030961 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Thanks so much Frenc. I’m off to walk the sausage dogs today, it might be their shortest ever walk but the trainers will be on and it’ll count!

Sending masses of good wishes your way. ❤️ Be prepared for more emotion when those trainers wear out because of all the fantastic miles you’ll do in them. I’ve just said goodbye to the ones that got me through mg broken toe. Absolute scenes! My husband thought I was nuts. You’re not the only one emotional over shoes!

Really good luck to you.

Thanks! I replaced my old GT1000s with some GT2000s which look very similar and are even more comfortable. I’ve been wearing the Old ones for walking but they’ve finally totally worn out. Sad to say goodbye to old friends!

Hurrah for you. A big well done for getting back out there. Your real emotional attachment to your running (and your trainers) is very helpful, it’s a touching story. Wishing you a speedy recovery, take it easy out there.
