Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

A very good morning to you Damien, I have just received your weekly e-mail, however, after last Saturday's 50th parkrun which was the sixth parkrun in a row, I am giving parkrun this Saturday a little break, however, just after 9 o'clock this morning I intend to run a short 3K around a small 1K pond very near to where I live, I'll run around the pond 3 times which makes up the 3K run, have a lovely weekend.
50 felt wonderful Hargo, I had ran 6 consecutive parkruns over the previous 6 weeks to get to my 50th parkrun to coincide with the parkruns 7th birthday, good luck for your 50th parkrun next Saturday. 😊 👍
PS, 9.30am, just came back from running that 3K in a PB time of 20:28, most of my "maintenance" 3K runs are usually around +21 minutes, so I'm quite happy about that short run😊🏃🏾
A very cold and blustery park run today in Western Australia. Just hubby from our family as no.2 son is recovering from a cold & I’m still recovering from Covid🥴. Hubby did it in 25:52. We’re off on holiday next week so hoping to visit Margaret River parkrun.
Brilliant! That’s tons more than i’ve done. You might surprise yourself though, get in the marathon mindset and run to heart rate to concentrate on something else?
Oh yes! I found breaking the habit by walking one helped. It’s quite painful mentally but all runs are faster after that. And as for recovery weeks…that was last week 😩 I suppose that’s why I’d done a lot less thinking about it. It ended a week ago tomorrow. Mileage is just about to ramp up again as it’s 12 miles on Sunday, which will take me to 45k for the week. I don’t feel so bad now 😂
Well done to your hubby. We are going on a Holiday too. Flew back from Barcelona late on Saturday night. Flying back out there this morning with family. Have a lovely Holiday.
A beautiful day here in Stratford upon Avon and it’s getting quite busy in the town centre.
We were on the alternative 4 lap ‘Cat’ course today (it’s cat shaped!) because there’s a regatta on the Avon.
I had a gentle but very sweaty 32 mins ‘with’ Katnap and youngest kitten. Got to wear my summer marathon training top at last! Katnap is eyeing up going sub 21 minutes so I don’t stand a chance running actually with him at parkrun.
Next week is timekeeping as I’ve the Compton Verney half marathon to fry in on the Sunday. Todays run was quite good for acclimatisation for that as it’s going to be a scorcher again by the sounds of it.
Have a great runny week everyone, and remember to keep hydrated 👍👍👏👏🥵🥵
I thought so too Dexy 😸 Just spotted I’ve got sunburnt 😳 Definitely an earlier start for my long run tomorrow…could be interesting trying to keep my heart rate down 😬 Tailwind is in the fridge already.
Well done TC. I have been so busy with work lately that I’ve let my running slip a little. But I’m away now to Spain again, but this time with my family for 2 weeks. So plan on catching up on rest, relaxation and some nice easy long early morning runs.
No parkrun for me today due to a 'taxi' trip to the station, so made do with a couple of (not) parkruns- 29.19 on Thursday and a much hotter 31.19 this morning!
It was the first outing for my new Garmin (Forerunner 45) which I bought in the sale a couple of weeks ago but hadn't previously had the chance to get set up. Very pleased with it - slowly getting used to the extra button!😀
Isn't it ridiculous. I've let mine drain all the way down and still smashed a 10 mile pb! The funny thing is is doesn't actually go to 0. Flatlines at 5%!
On newer models they have in addition to Body Battery: Training Readiness and Training Status. More things to bamboozle you!
The hot nights and late meals have meant that "Heart Rate Variability" has been low all this week, and the watch is telling me to take it easy. (HRV apparently goes down when you're ill or overdoing things.)
Well done Jonathan on your (not)parkruns. I’ve still got my Forerunner 35, it is a great watch. It’ll do me until it stops working. The 45 is a lovely watch. Hard to beat Garmin.
Hello damienair in Barcelona 👋🏻 And everyone else wherever you may be, UpTheStanley snd I joined 344 others along Southsea seafront this morning. Being a “Phew wot a scorcher” weekend the prom was very busy with families heading for the beach with the day’s paraphernalia. UTS ran incredibly well with what looked like a constant pace of 5;03. I started well but found it fat too hot and slowed down with each km. Just over 35 mins for me - it just might have something to do with drinking lots of pimms while watching tennis on the TV yesterday 🙄
Plan was to do south manchester or alexandra (nice and flat to take it easy) but both those were cancelled. Had totally forgotten how flat marple is! Last time I was there was for number 10 way back on October 2nd.
Got really excited when I thought I'd convinced both parents and a brother to join me but alas mum was in a dither about a scheduling mishap later today so decided it would be less stress to cut something out and oldest brother didn't turn up in the end anyway. Was always unlikely. He is normally still away with the fairies at 9am Saturday! At least had a chapel running buddy turn up last minute which was unexpected.
Wasn't expecting the course to be so rock solid underfoot. Marple is almost entirely on the grass and soil trails so normally stays boggy even with little rain. Have had a fair bit of rain around the peak district this week so went with my more minimal trail shoe and should really have gone with my supercush ones instead. Nevermind, was taking it easy anyway and that's what I did.
49 out of the way now the mind is squarely on the wilmslow 10k tomorrow (now you know why I was taking it easy).
Made the sub 20 minute 5k official in April. The next milestone to overcome is the sub 40 minute 10k. Could tomorrow be the day? Here's hoping that perhaps the heat isn't as high as predicted for 9 am tomorrow!
As for number 50 we'll be having a gathering at lyme park next saturday if anyone wants to give that behemoth a go with us!
Hi everyone, Parkrun no. 25 💜🥳 for me today! It was pretty warm out at Lowestoft seafront and the wind coming back the other way was actually a welcome breeze! I was running along side a pregnant lady who was touristing and I told how amazing I thought she was! I finished in 38.35 which was faster than last week but still a fair bit off my PB from April. Super pleased to have reached my first milestone and I’ll be putting in an order for my t-shirt this evening!
Congratulations to you Newbierunner84 on completing your 25th parkrun in a good time of 38.35, it won't be long before you get that purple 25 T Shirt, I ran my 50th parkrun last week, ordered the red 50 T Shirt on Thursday and got a email saying the order is completed and sent, I should get that red 50 T Shirt on Monday or Tuesday, I will wear it next Saturday.
PR time was nearly 3 minutes faster than my Garmin time of a 45'49"!!!! (Surely some mistake!). I then took advantage of the weather being around 19 to 21 degrees and cloudy (except for the last 30 minutes) and ended up jeffing my second 10 miles. Next week looks as if I may not run at all, as it is getting properly hot next week. I will be volunteering next Saturday.Well done everyone. Be careful of the heat.
Congratulations to you Rennur on completing your 25th parkrun, I never understand why there is such a difference between parkrun official time and the timing devices runners have, could be something to do with what they call runners "funnel ducking." that's when a runner crosses the finishing line but doesn't take a token to be scanned.
Well done Rennur. Mistakes do happen for all sorts of reasons, and sometimes it’s in your favour and others it isn’t. So just enjoy that one and if it’s a PB, you may have to try and match it sometime 😂
If anyone complains about an incorrect time, we offer them a free run the following week. 😉.
I've done finish tokens and number checking myself but it is usually back on track by the time we last few stragglers come through the (by then shortened) funnel!
It's always a good idea to check the watch for distance after picking up your finish position token. You don't have to scan in immediately. You can run long to complete the distance on the watch.
If you tell them, the volunteers will simply laugh with you at your predicament. They've probably done exactly the same, eg. for a Garmin weekend 5K badge.
All they'll be worried about is someone disappearing off with a finish token. They're expensive to replace.
No parkrun for me either today. We had to vacate the thatched cottage we had been holidaying in the last fortnight by 10am. My time was spent packing the car so we could get away (almost) on time.
I'm volunteering next Saturday. The last time I volunteered was at the end of October. It looks as if I've been allocated as a timekeeper again.
My next run at parkrun will be in two weeks, probably at Pwllheli.
It is really warming up here in SW France - due to hit 40c next week. However, Shake-and-run and I are meeting up with our running group tomorrow for a trail run so limited ourselves to a 8k walk around our lake before it got too hot today. Sadly we heard this week that parkrun in France has been suspended due to concerns around medical certificates and insurance, so we are so glad we did our parkrun last week
Oh dear Sandie , parkrun went round a lot of loops to convince France that parkrun was not a race and didn’t need medical certificates when they started there. It would be a shame if it got stopped. Back to (not) parkrun?
We probably weren’t going to do the Bordeaux one again as it was rather a long way, but is a great shame. We had heard that no new parkruns were being allowed, even though there are a load of applications pending, but now the few that have been allowed are suspended ☹️
The walk was lovely. The run was nearly 13k with 165m elevation gain in 25 degrees 🥵🥵 The drink and cake afterwards was delicious though 😂😂 Have a great holiday!
We're on holiday in Ontario, Canada so I did my 25th Parkrun at Victoria Park in Waterloo with my son and daughter - also her 25th Parkrun! It was a very hot and humid 4 loop run around a pretty lake. Victoria is a small Parkrun, 36 runners in total! I was 24th, 1st in my age range - only one in my age range!
It was! I did the same Parkrun in 2019 and met a lovely lady from Glasgow there. Her home Parkrun is Victoria in Glasgow. For my 29th February 2020 run I went to her Victoria Parkrun. She has bagged several runs called Victoria. I love stuff like that!
Victoria Park parkrun in Glasgow Scotland is the second largest in Scotland after Edinburgh parkrun, if I still lived in Glasgow Victoria Park parkrun would be my home parkrun as I used to live only about 3 miles away.
When I was a little boy "a few years ago" 😂my father would take me and my sister to Victoria Park, feed the swans and go onto one of the paddle boats for about 15 minutes, I have happy memories of those days at Victoria Park in Glasgow.
