How slow?

As we ran yesterday today would usually be a rest day but my husband spotted a potential route along the wall which protects the marina from the sea and wanted to do it today. I figured I've been running for over a year now, so if I took it easy I probably wouldn't do any lasting damage to run two days in a row. Off we went.

He suggested 4 or 5k, I only wanted 3k as I'm a bit concerned about my joints with all this road running so 3 it was. I didn't want to push myself at all. Gently, gently we got to the sea wall...and it was closed off. There was a lower level with anglers so we went there instead. About thirty metres in a guy in hi vis called at us that we couldn't run there, it's only for people with fishing permits. We had to turn round and run across the Asda car park to get to our distance. Not quite as scenic as we hoped.

At the end my husband said what atrocious time we'd made, 26:35 to do 3km. I explained that slow runs are the way to health, better VO2 etc. I don't think he's convinced, but that nice Mr Garmin is. He's knocked even more years off my age, I'm now apparently 39! Which means my eldest must have been born when I was 9 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I wonder how many slow runs until I'm in my 20s and younger than him?

PS my pace was 8'56", 8'56", 8'42" mins/km, is this a negative split?πŸ˜‚

Nice run for you today Yesletsgo and congratulations on your age now being under 40 at 39, lol, I am sure you did NOT give birth at 9 years old, even if you had you wouldn't have been the youngest person to do so, I just looked up Wikipedia, the youngest girl to give birth was only 5 years old. Negative splits are when the second part of a run is ran quicker than the first or each kilometer is a little faster than the previous one.

So, I suppose that the second half was faster. I'll take a negative split wherever I can.If Mr Garmin ever puts me under 30 I'll be the youngest mum ever (not a title I would have ever wanted in real life I hasten to add!!)

Of course not.

Definitely a negative split, but maybe helped by trying to get out of that car park!

By the time we got to the car park I was speeding up as the fun part was over, as you guessed!

Wish I could run slow that fast πŸ˜€

So many people on here say things like 'it was a leisurely 5'40 per km' that I feel that the snail folks are my crowd. Sorry if I'm doing the humblebrag πŸ™„ my 'fast' isn't that much faster lol

No need to be sorry, I’m really proud of you, I have run a kilometre faster but can’t keep it up, I’m bragging today because I swam really close to a seal, As to running I’m going to test my painful knee out tomorrow and that will be slow

A seal! Wow, I've never swum with them but I once had one follow me when I was in a very small boat. They have lovely faces, like spaniels but no ears! What an experience!Hope all goes well with the knee tomorrow, worrying when things hurt but maybe it just needs a bit of careful movement 🀞🀞🀞good luck!

The seal was beautiful, the knee has had a couple weeks careful movement, a walk on sand and more swimming than i’m used to today didn’t do it ant harm so tomorrow it’s getting a bit of careful running, I’ll post a pic of the beach here for you it’s not that far from Brighton

Definitely no such thing as too slow. Anything from a walk is considered aerobic base building. And yes that is a negative split you've done there. It's excellent practice to get in negative splits as often as you can because it teaches your body to get used to finishing a run faster which is perfect for when you're racing.

Thanks, I seem to go faster towards the end of a run even if I'm not consciously trying to. It's probably the thought of breakfast (I run in the morning before I eat :) )
