Iβve been working up to this run. Today was the day! Having checked the forecast, if I ran at about 9.45 I would miss the rain. Well, I got distracted with making some backgrounds for my cards, so I missed the window! It was going to be cool, so I wore a long sleeved top and shorts. It rained! But it wasnβt much and it was quite refreshing.
Warm up walk completed and satellite signal obtained (eventually) I set off with a brisk walk. Steady away! Iβm listening to the NRC 10K Run with Coach Bennett. Iβve heard it a few times before. The first few kilometres are uneventful as I settled into the run. I start the fourth kilometre and the Demon Hill beckons! Plod, plod. Once I can see the traffic lights I know Iβm near the top. Yes, there they are! I thankfully crest the hill and run steadily down towards the park. I run into the park and my watch buzzes at the same time as my mobile rings. Coach Bennett pauses. Drat. Itβs my financial adviser and I really need to speak to him. I do so and somehow manage to carry on running, much to his amusement, but of course when I restart Coach Bennett heβs out of sync with Garmin. Never mind, I carry on listening to him. Then - another call. I try to take the call, but thereβs no-one there. This time Coach Bennett disappears completely and Iβm alone! I select some music, all the while not missing a step π
Iβm now at 5K and I decide to do part of the route again, but Iβd turn back before the Demon Hill as Iβve no wish to run up it a second time. I carry on and although Iβm getting tired, my legs are coping well. I turn back and down the hill towards home. Iβm too close to home so I start the circuit again, deciding to turn back at 9K. I manage to increase pace a little for the last kilometre and Iβm done! Very, very pleased to have completed a 10K run this morning, my first this year.
Instructor57 and I started C25K at the same time, 2 years ago. Happy Runiversary, Ian - we should both be proud of our achievements. We are runners! πππ

Congratulations on completing that 10K run and also on the occasion of your 2nd runniversary, so annoying when you get a phone call and there isn't anyone there, what they call a silent call, especially if you are out a run
You so should both be proud of your achievements youβve both gained fitness and strength, Iβm with you on not running up Demon hill twice Jools, enjoy the rest of your day π
Thank you, itβs given me a boost today. I d been extending my time spent running and was supposed to be at 90 minutes, but I knew that 10k would be in sight, so had to go for it!
Absolutely, I donβt understand how people can not when so close. I think I have OCD, I couldnβt run for 9.8K, I mean why would you? Go for 10 right, I like even numbers lol. Iβm working back up to 10K, now off for 6K run (not 5.9 lol). Well done, sorry for my mad ramblings
I get it! Maybe I have OCD tendencies, too. I ran a 10K once. Strava said it was 9.99k. I was gutted! So now I just run on for a slow count of 4 to allow for that π
Congratulations Jools what a great runniversary celebration!! πππππ₯ A brilliant 10k run despite the tech issues and call interruptions. I've noticed that NRC doesn't deal very well with those kinds of issues. Still, a fab run! Happy runniversary π₯³π
Congats on your runiversary Jools and your 10K today. You are certainly back on form, well done. Won't be long before Demon Hill is just a ' bit of a slope' you have conquered. ππββοΈ
I had forgotten about the Runniversary until I saw Ianβs post π. Youβre right about the hills, but theyβre here and so am I so Iβve got to learn to adapt π
Brilliant! Happy runniversary! I love the idea of you having a chat with your financial adviser while running! I also have z very vivid image of Demon Hill, which you've mentioned a few times. I think my version looks like Mordor from Lord of the Rings - oh wait, you mentioned traffic lights - maybe not then!
Haha! I think the Demon Hill is a slight slope compared to the routes many people have on here. It was funny trying to talk on the phone and run at the same time. My breathing was a little heavy π
Congratulations! Thatβs the way to celebrate. Hereβs to many more 10ks and many more Runniversaries.ππππππββοΈππΌπββοΈππΌπββοΈ
Well done Jools! I too commenced the program about the same week as you in 2020. I havenβt been nearly as consistent as you or managed to run the distances that you do, I always read your posts as they inspire me to keep at it. I have been off a few weeks now with some issues with my back. After visit to doctor yesterday, following up X-ray and CT results, I have started the C2K program at week 1, run 1 again this morning. I probably could have managed a 3km ok but I thought this would be the safest way to build back up. So nice to be out in the early morning working on my fitness again. Thank you for always posting your runsβ¦.your financial advisor must have found it interesting to talk with you while you were heavy breathing in his ear!
Thank you! I havenβt been consistent since December, but trying hard to get back to it. I thought Iβd try gentle 3K runs first and build on that. For me it seems to be working. This 10K might be the slowest Iβve run. So sorry to hear about your back! For you it seems that very gradual build up back to fitness is the sensible option.
It was an interesting conversation with my financial advisor! Fortunately he was doing most of the talking as I was just gasping my agreement π.
Thanks, Frenc. Stinky Hill, thatβs great! Once I feel Iβve mastered Demon Hill, I shall rename it to something nicer. When I first encountered it, I took one look and turned back! But itβs part of a perfect circular 5K route, so I persevered. Thereβs a downhill just after it, within the same kilometre, so my overall pace for that kilometre is generally unaffected. Itβs tough on the legs, though. My calf muscles are definitely more toned lately!
In normal circumstances I would have ignored all calls! But I have a lot going on right now and it cuts down my phone time if I can deal with βstuffβ immediately. Iβm not sure even how I managed to keep running! π
Well done Julia, on the run, and your two years, actualy thought you'd been running longer. π€ my two years will be soon, got a painfull foot atm, might be tendon, so having an ultra sound this friday, hopefully see what's going on in there. π€Anyway, glad everythings going ok for you, i know you've had alot to deal with, this last year! π
Thanks, Peter π I graduated in late July 2020. Is your painful foot a running injury? Whether it is or not, Iβm guessing you canβt run at the moment. Hope you find out exactly what the problem is and the treatment for it.
Things are much better. My Dadβs house sale completes next month. Itβs difficult to let go of the family home with all its memories, but all 4 of us knew we couldnβt keep it. Iβve been in my new house for over 3 months and settling in nicely!
