I've been running 10/12k on a Monday morning with a super friendly bunch of runners for the past couple of years now. I always thought I would speed up so I could keep pace with them. However, they have got faster while I have slowed down, probably due to the amazing amount of training, grit and determination they apply to their running!
I've got to the stage now where I am feeling fed up after after about 3km. So, here I am! I have come back to this group to share in the advice, tips and wisdom of the wonderful runners on this forum.
I am trying to start off my runs more slowly and run at a consistent pace over 5k. I have also booked a training session for Thursday morning! 💪🏃♀️

Great place to come back to. I never did speed up when there was an incline of any sort, and reached my max in the flat I think. However, I then slowed down due to lack of iron. Have you checked your iron levels? Just a thought.
Thanks for that Baddie. I'll get a blood test, maybe thyroid too. I have a feeling that once my head's in the right place my body will follow. Hope all's well with you.
Nice to see you posting again Cantstopmenow. Totally understand how frustrating it must be not quite keeping pace with your running group...but as a certain wise Oldfloss says ' comparison is the thief of joy' and there IS joy to be found in our running.Striving hard can be detrimental to enjoyment of a good run, which is really what you want to achieve I think.
Good luck as you continue forward, definately getting support from us on here.🏃♀️👌xxx
Hello Cantstopmenow, welcome back. It can be fun running with others or it can be disheartening. When a group of us did (not) parkruns during the Covid restrictions , we would start at different times to end together. It then felt like we were aiming for the same goal, whatever our pace.
Thanks Dexy5, they've been running 7 miles the last few weeks. However, there's plenty of opportunity to take a short cut, so I would arrive back around the same time. Why didn't I think of that earlier? 🤣🤣
Welcome back! Once a member here, always a member 😍
I joined a running club once and while they were a really friendly lot and I sort of enjoyed the group runs, eventually I missed running on my own too much and left the club.
We’re all different and much of the fun of running is working out what we like 🙂
Welcome back. It is great running with a group, but hard when you are struggling to keep up. That takes all the fun out of it. I’m trying to train for a Half Marathon at the moment but with traveling a lot with work and being away from home a lot lately I’m struggling to find the time and I also find myself exhausted. I know that I would struggle to keep up with a running group now too. But I’m going to continue to bumble away and run when I can.
