Hi, having just done my first week on Ju jus Bridge to 10 k having made the mistake previously of running 10k after compleating the 5k program without building up to it !! My legs were sore next morning !..well there are 2 programs , the one I am doing now which is over 8 weeks ju jus where only on 1 day you increase the distance ..and the other one NHS 5 to 10 k app which is 6 weeks long , walk / run /walk/run etc ..they both look very good I just wonder which one to try ..I like the idea of the app has it speaks to you the start and finish ..

If you're already used to (and enjoy) running continuously, my feeling is that juju's plan would be better. You can do either a time based or distance based plan. I'm quite a slow runner so I used the time based plan to start with, and then switched to the distance plan once I'd run over an hour. If you just want a start/end notification (rather than supportive commentary throughout), apps like runkeeper can give you audiostats as you run, either time or distance based. Some people on here use the guided/commentary runs with runkeeper or NRC as motivation (not designed to get you to 10k specifically), I'm sure somebody else can give you more info about them if you're interested.

NRC's distance based runs will let you know from time to time how far you've run, so for example 1km, 1 mile, 2.5km 2 miles etc (I think the miles are for the American audience :) ). I've learned a lot about how to improve my running from listening to them and if I were to follow a plan like say JuJu I'd probably use NRC to keep me going.

I've yet to reach 10k but am enjoying the slow build up to it (longest run to date 8km). I started the NRC HM plan at New Year but that would have involved running 10k in the 4th week and I decided I didn't want to get there that quickly. I'm now sort of wishing I'd gone for it but hey ho, it'll happen eventually :)

I’ve pretty much completed the distance based three runs a week JJMP and it’s really worked for me. I like the shorter runs as either opportunities to recover on tired legs or to try out new routes, intervals, hills, fartlek etc. According to others, it works well with the NRC app guided runs. I’ve been ill so not had the chance to try that out yet. I’ve found since finishing c25k, I much prefer running with music or podcasts without the interruptions, especially on the long runs. I use my Fitbit to check my distance/time instead.
