The hill on my way back home from the local park, completely kills me even walking it, unfortunately there is no way of avoiding it so I make sure I have finished my run before I get to it.
Yesterday, I jogged up it! A very slow jog, but I included it in my run as I wont let a hill scare me off permanently lol.
The reward was a 500m downhill run to home
Was meant to do 3.5km as per the w3r1 of the JJMP. I took on board @cmoi and @missunderstanding's advise and as I was feeling a bit brave I decided to include half the hills from last run due to half the distance, even if it meant including the hill that is my nemesis. Since it was meant to be a 3.5k run, I assumed it will be achievable.
After running up & down some hills, as I turned onto the main road towards my home, I saw my local park & thought I can do a loop of that (the flat surface was too tempting π specially as I have included a few hills already) so i could do 5k run. One loop later, it was still daylight & I thought of getting the long run out of the way first while I am at it. So, went for another shorter round and back on uphill road to home. Another turn & the steep killer hill was ahead. Slowed down even more with shorter steps & went ahead. Half way through I was dying & considered walking it but somewhere something in me didnt want to lose to the hill so I continued the slow jog huffing & puffing with my legs almost giving up untill I reached the top. Cant believe I actually jogged up it!! Another turn after that & a short uphill, the next turn was downhill all the way to home. Distance ran was 7.5km. Woohooo!!

I walk, sometimes 5mins & most times a few kms depending on which park I go to for my runs. That in turn depends on the time of the day/night I schedule the run and if I have company or not.Off course, post run stretches too once home.
This is a great post to read. Massive congratulations for getting up that hill. Half the battle is knowing you can do it and youβll have that in your pocket for next time.
Thinking βI can just add an extra few kilometres on to my runβ on the spur of the moment is such a change from the c25k. Thatβs the biggest gain Iβve noticed since finishing and I like it a lot!
Iβve found I get the worst post run aches when Iβve had a very hilly run. Hoping your legs are holding up and youβve got a good stretching routine. Iβm planning some yoga this afternoon. Enjoy your rest day-well earned.
Never thought about that but you are so right. From struggling to add another minute of running during c25k to adding a couple of kilometers is a great change.
It's a MASSIVE change I'd say! Reading cmoi's and misunderstanding on how to approach Hills. I did run/trot up more of a small one yesterday than I usually do. It was still a slog of a run through being too hot and skin starting to itch, but I'm glad I made the effort.
Well done! I did something similar on last weeks run, I didn't let the uphill defeat me, but was so out of breath afterwards that I had to walk some of the flat once I got there! I figure it gives me something to aim towards on my next run...
I was going to walk too once I was at the flatter part, didnt think I had any breath left in me to continue running, oops the slowest jog lol. But I had another smallish uphill to cross and knew it was all downhill from there..so kept with my jog.I just couldn't believe that I jogged up it when I used to struggle walking up that one.
Amazing progress, well done. I've only recently started introducing hills (to runs, I walk a lot) so I'm hopeful I'll see some progress over the next few weeks.
Yay well done! ππͺβ°οΈπππ Isn't it great when you realise you can achieve what you once thought was impossible π Enjoy your rest day π
