Magic runs

I've been in Sweden for a few days, I lived here many years ago and visit my first husband who still lives here. The countryside is beautiful and perfect for running. I'm on the magic plan, and truly the runs here lived up to the title. I did 2x5k and an 8k through the forest following a well-marked trail. Golly the Swedes do things like that well. This mornings last run was round the lake near the house. We woke up to snow and easterly winds yesterday but today was dead calm and so silent. Apart from the woodpecker with a hammerhead drill!

Oh how lucky you are! That looks beautiful. How nice to get back there and enjoy the scenery - the Swedes obviously know how to do it, as you say. Enjoy your time there Mormor! 😊😊😊

Yes. I'm very, very lucky... Just by ( eventually) having a good enough relationship to be able to visit this beautiful country and run here. Such a bonus.

What a lovely picture very scenic. Thank goodness never woke up to that amount this morning just a dusting. . Enjoy the rest of your holiday 😊

Thanks Doris8, tho the Swedes are so efficient that the roads are being swept and gritted as fast as the snow falls.

Oh look, how beautiful! Makes our little bit of snow today seem pathetic!

It does! If you're going to have snow then have it properly!

Gorgeous pictures. I absolutely love Scandinavia. I’ve only been to Stockholm in Sweden but I’d love to visit the more rural parts.

I think we must be roughly at the same stage of the magic plan-my week was 4k, 5k and 8k although I deviated a bit. It sounds like you’re doing really well.

I lived in Stockholm for a couple of years and learnt Swedish in a language school there It's beautiful, all that water adds another dimension.

Not sure which week I'm on, must check tomorrow, but that was my second week of 3Rd run being 8k so next week it's a 9 sometime...will you continue after reaching the magic 10?

We loved Stockholm and would go back tomorrow. Such a great city.

I’m definitely going to continue with the magic plan. After going rogue this week and accidentally running 10K on Wednesday (oops!), I’m going to be back with week 5 on Monday. I want to get used to running the longer distances regularly before increasing any more.

Saying that, last night I did do a bit of googling and there’s a local half marathon at the end of September…

Think I start week 6 tomorrow... Weather permitting... I got to 10 miles last June and will carry on increasing 1x week till i get back there. Hopefully increasing stamina by not rushing it this time...I like the reprieve of the 2 shorter runs! After Stockholm we moved to Småland for 3 years...County of lakes and forests....I prefer the south, Skåne. Where I go now. The Baltic sea nearby and big skies...I'm in East Anglia so used to that, tho the north sea doesn't quite match up I swim in it alot!

Awe Mormor1,Welcome home 😀

That sure sounds such a wonderful place to visit and run 🏃‍♀️

I don't know what the "magic plan" is.. but it sure sounds magical!

Fabulous x

It's 2 short runs and one longer one each week.... To reach 10k...then I'll probably carry on to 16k again....it seems to work for me and I do like a goal.

I want to befriends with your former husband. I’d love to run there and swim in that lake. You lucky thing. And well done on the running.

He does live in an idyllic area. I do usually swim and if I'd had a towel on me maybe I would have on the first day....my son was there a month ago and jumped in....the water temp is 2.5!! He got our as fast as he got in!

OpheliaCrying profile image
OpheliaCrying in reply to Mormor1

I do cold water swimming throughout the winter. 2.5 is brassic. But quite a buzz afterwards.

Mormor1 profile image
Mormor1Graduate10 in reply to OpheliaCrying

Well done you, I'd love manage it all year but as I've got older I've lost body fat and now I get too cold too quickly. I'll start again soon tho, it's a great way to cool down after a long run!

I swim skins mostly but the shortie 1.5mm wetsuits from Decathlon are a really good little insulator. And light enough to carry in a small pack for wild swims, I think mine was £19.99.

How lovely! I recently discovered a podcast on the BBC Sounds app: "The Cold Swedish Winter". It's a comedy in five series - I've listened to them all :)
