After a couple of months of ill health & then a knee injury last year I had to start off easy this year with short run/walks to make sure my knee would hold up & to get my fitness back up πββοΈπΆββοΈπββοΈ
I'm having to be really patient as I think it was building back up to 10k far too quickly after being poorly that caused the injury and it took ages to heal so I defo don't want to do that again! Lesson learnt π€¦ββοΈπ€
I've been sticking to just 2 runs a week & built back up to 5k...very slow & steady at 1st then removing walks & introducing a bit more speed while constantly keeping an eye on my knee & how it reacts.
Decided this morning to try a 6k & was thrilled it went well...I changed to a route that had all the up hill bits in the 1st half, leaving lots of nice down hill sections for when I was flagging and it worked really well. The weather was also on my side, I hate to overheat but the 10 degree sunny weather with a pretty constant cool breeze was perfect βοΈπ¬
All in all it couldn't have gone better, very slight ache in the back of my knee in the last few minutes but nothing concerning, and my hips were starting to complain a little bit by then too...they've soon forgotten how far they used to manage!
Very happy to have managed 6k again...hope all your runs this weekend are good ones too ππ
