Hello fellow Questers... hardly believable, but here we are on Week 2, and, as my photograph suggests, I would love to know how it is all going!

I do know, that many of you are well on target and making a great start to those quests. It is so good to see that a few folk who have been unable to run for a while are getting out there and doing what feels right for them :)

I am on target, if a little behind in my timing, but I am perfectly happy with the path I am running ! Just as I think everything is slotting into place.... wheeeee, along comes something unexpected and the run has to go on hold. But, when i DO get the run...it is wonderful and really, really welcome.

I run and the stress just seems to float away behind .

Your posts are full of successes, ( and a few setbacks), and that is what keeps us all going. Running together. Sadly, there are a few of us on the Injury Couch, but, even there, we are able to share our woes and know that the runs will, as ever wait for us! Chin up everyone there:)

So... a reminder for anyone joining us this week...

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

We ask that you are a C25K graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your weeks are pretty much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn’t want the Quest to interfere with that.

Some popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to...

Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.

I look forward to hearing how it is all going, from those already signed up, any new comers too, and hopefully hearing from folks who we have not heard from, for a while:)

Oldfloss x

PS

My photograph is taken on the Trail from Middleton Top in Derbyshire... the tunnel? Well I had a bit of a weird time in there... but that is a story for another time:) x

“Well I had a bit of a weird time in there... but that is a story for another time:) “ I am intrigued !

It’s a bit harder to tell if my pace has improved, this week, as I did my hill repeats during a trail run yesterday morning instead of on my run home today. I do feel like I’m managing to be a bit quicker though 👍

Watch this space! I am hoping to post later!

This is certainly looking positive for you, and if you are moving a tad faster, you probably are?

Running at a different time of day too could make a difference , do you feel?

The stats seem to show that you are right and were getting faster?

It is interesting, I do things but never really analyse my running strategies. I think I need to call them by their names., like hill repeats. It makes it sound like I know what I am doing:)

Well done you... we shall watch for your posts!

😃 but a lot of that run was actually downhill 🤣🤣🤣

February continues with consolidation. I've eased off a bit after RED January, and am allowing myself a little extra bit of slack in my routines.

After two rest days I went out at lunchtime today and knocked 8 seconds off my 10km time. I didn't mean to do that!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to nowster

It just happened! Go you... you are continuing to do well, and I feel that you deserve to ease back a tad... you have achieved so much.If those extra seconds come off without trying, goodness knows what would happen if you tried!

Those of us who might well run there in the very, very near future would quite like to hear the story now please!!!

OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to GoogleMe

Ha ha!!!! I had nearly bumped into a runner, coming around a corner, at the gates before that stretch, and weirdly, you popped into my head!!!I am going to post later about THAT tunnel....but I don't think you are of a nervous disposition????

We can all have weird fancies in tunnels! Google was never fond of them (not bothered now since her unsighted life is one continual tunnel with no light at the end)

Incidentally, whilst there were many dogs and walkers on the canal the other day, the only dog that impeded my progress and was a trip hazard was one accompanying a runner!

Oh I really need to know what happened in that tunnel Oldfloss I only managed one swim last week, but have two sessions booked for this.

I've decided on non running days- Monday, Wednesday, Friday - for my physio exercises

So far so good🤞

I had an enjoyable run 1 of week 8 of c25 today - only 5 more runs to go

Wonderful to know that things are coming together for you too😁

Oldfloss profile image

Huge well done to you on this last week! You seem to be on track too, and accepting that things don't always go to plan! I know you love the swimming!

Three days running sounds good, I try for Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, but it does not always work !

You are so close now to that 5K again,,, just wonderful. I shall be watching for that post !

Hi Floss and fellow Questers,

So far so good for me...

I have been getting to my mat for daily Yoga practice and doubling up the next day if I have to miss a session.

I ran on Monday! After a long break when I haven't been able/wanted to make the time, I squashed the gremlins and laced up for a little runette. I was pleased that I could keep going without getting breathless and my legs felt strong.

Thanks to you Floss for the nudge and inspiration and also to my Strava friends who are so supportive as well. Now to get back into a routine of sorts....🏃‍♀️🤞

No Joe Wicks sessions done yet. Dry February is going well without temptation.

That tunnel you ran through does look eerie, on such a lovely route, but you couldn't go round it, so, you had to go through it. Was it creepy?

I'm definately feeling determined this month, and I know we will all do our best with our quest goals.

Good luck all😊xxx

We're going on a bear hunt? Yes... I did have to go through it, and back again! Very creepy! Watch this space!Well !

You are here and you did run. You DID! A huge well done to you for getting out and taking time for a gentle beginning:)

Your Yoga, which you do each day I know is something that you enjoy! Doubling up too for missed ones? I am really going to have to focus more on my yoga!

I am so glad that you are feeling positive. All that you are doing is certainly going to keep you up to speed, for a certain small one's adventures.

Looking forward to watching your progress! x

I'm progressing towards 10k. I ran 8k on Monday. The NRC HM plan says I'm doing 10k next Monday. I might take it a bit slower, do another 8k or maybe 9k. I'm in no hurry to reach HM distance though I'd like to get there eventually. My immediate goal is 10k by 4th March and I've got nearly a month to get there :)

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Yesletsgo

This is good! You are heading towards your goal, but listening to your body, doing it at your own pace. Perfect!

You are most certainly going tor each that 10K in March and, the HM. Well, we never say never do we!

I shall be watching for your posts ! x

Yesletsgo profile image
YesletsgoAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Oldfloss

I've decided that, just for now, the HM plan will be put on hold. Not that I'm not enjoying it, quite the opposite, but the need to do the prescribed runs is getting a little bit prescriptive for me so I'm taking a week or two to do my own thing.

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate10

Hello! So my previous aim to run twice a week and increase distance has paid off. I ran 9k on Monday, at a better pace than my previous 5k, even though it wasn't deliberately faster. I'm overjoyed. I'm finding it difficult to fit my runs in, rather like you Oldfloss but I'm on leave next week, so hope to do my first 10k in well over a year. We'll see. My other quest is to stay injury free, I've had enough of the IC!

Take care.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Positive results here. Well done you!You seem to be making pleasing progress too on the pace level . Anything like that is so rewarding. It shows that everything is beginning to pay off.

Yes, fitting runs in! My husband has a theory that time, since the pandemic started has entered a whole new warp!

It would be so good if you could get that 10K in... I have a few weeks to go before I am anywhere near!

Enjoy your week off, and we shall look forward to you 10K report? x

Aha! A tunnel! There's a tunnel like that where I sometimes run. A bit spooky

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Roxdog

Oh yes.. this one, was odd, for different reasons!

Frenc profile image
FrencGraduate1060minGraduate

I agree about the stress floating away. Sometime at the start of a run I imagine that any stresses are invisible bits of clutter that literally fall away as I go 😊.

No exciting quests really this end, just to run three times this week and to stay injury free.

I love that tunnel!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Frenc

Those are fantastic goals... and basically, have been mine since my blip in 2020!Just to run, when able and to enjoy.

I have a super image now of the problems and stress, all floating away behind you as your run; slow motion, like the debris in space!

Well done you! x

PS

That tunnel... I am going to post about later today, I hope!!! x

Yes just like debris in space! Invisible stress clutter. Can’t wait for the tunnel tale 😊.

Well done OldFloss - keep it going!

I am on track at the moment:

1. 100K running for the month (currently at 32K)

2. 400K riding (Currently at 92K)

3. Start Skipping (not yet but this week!)

4. A pull up (this will wait until the end of the month)

Keeping it busy!

I'm in if only to hear the story of the tunnel! I've hauled myself off the IC got back to yoga and tried a little jogette. So my quest this month is to carry on with the daily Move yoga challenge (although completely out of sync now which isn't doing my OCD any good at all) and keep jogetting for the rest of the month so I don't set my recovery back, still don't have full movement in my knees but weirdly doesn't seem to bother me running.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to PJRunner

Ha ha.... it is coming !Good to get off the IC, and start doing what feels comfortable again. When things do not go to plan, it can get very tricky...but standing back and just taking it slowly should get you back on track.

I do know a lot of us, struggled with Yoga with Adriene's January Challenge... I had to abandon and do my own thing. I was so out of sync!

Just take it steadily and make sure those knees get plenty of supportive exercise too?

Huge well done to you!

My quest is to continue with and finish Ju-Ju's Magic Plan, which I started in the first week of January. I am in week 6 now and managed my first 8km run yesterday. Whoohoo! :-)

My quest to run 56 miles in February for Cancer Research is on course -20 miles done as of today. I managed to do a couple of longer runs so I could have two rest days. I am getting used to running more frequently and have deliberately found some different routes. I really don’t like counting miles and still run in km (5k sounds so much further than 3.1 miles). I know there are runners on here who are used to running long distances but my running had tailed off in the last quarter of 2021 so this has been a big challenge for me. Ran on the beach today for the first time after checking the tide would be out. Breezy, sunny and very few people - magic😀 The Tunnel - I’m intrigued!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to alpacagirl

This all sounding really positive... and yes, Ks sound better than miles:)Your beach run sounds idyllic and I cannot wait until I am able to get to the coast again in around two or three weeks time!

You are doing wonderfully, and responding to a challenge in such a determined way is not always easy x

Good luck with that Cancer Quest, we shall watch for your post!

I know a tunnel a bit like that but it's got a bend in it so it's virtually dark in the centre and VERY muddy. It's on a route I'd love to run but it's a bit too far to get to from home. It's less than a 10 minute drive away but for some reason I just don't like the idea of driving somewhere just to go for a run! Anyway last week was all good, 2 runs, 2 knee strengthening sessions and 6 days with with yoga or pilates.

This week I'm still struggling to get out for my first run, so many boring things like MOTs and workmen visits keep getting in the way. I may end up on my son's treadmill after dog sitting for him today 🤞

I thought I was back on track with following a Start to Run plan to get myself back into the running business (but on my treadmill). But with the health issues of one of my cats (she had 4 epileptic-like attacks in the past week - maybe due to new medication), I just can't bring myself to run. I wish I could run, but I just can't force myself to it. I have now told myself that Sierra is more important and that if running feels wrong at the moment, I don't have to do it. Once everything is a bit more settled (or solved hopefully), running will still be there to pick up.

I do keep reading here though!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to

It will be there..always...You do what is right for you and currently that is your cat.Maybe whilst you are not running...head over to the S and F forum and get-together a little indoor routine for strength work,

Loads of ideas that will keep you moving, but keep you near to home xx

Coming in late… It’s been a crazy work week.

I managed 4 runs in 8 days (I’m losing track of my place in time and questing updates): a short recovery run; a speed interval session with Coach Cory; and today, my 13.1k long run with Coach Bennett, the idea being to visualise each km as a mile of the HM. My photo (I thought of yours as I took it) is at the point where, thankfully (and obviously), I had to turnaround; I was spared spooky bits.

On the subject of fear: A week ago, I ran the ‘12k tempo run’. As I’ve been sharing with Hidden - the tempo run is one of my ‘challenges’. The word ‘tempo’ sends a chill right through to the marrow. Fast and faster and faster still in Speedwork is not so worrisome: it’s usually just for a minute or so, and with recovery breaks. But the tempo runs are sustained for much longer. This one turned out to be not 12k but ‘only’ 8k at tempo (and not quite even that) with 2k warmup and 2k cooldown. Still sounds pretty frightening though: ‘8k tempo’😨. But the fear was faced with CB and it was nowhere near as bad as I’d imagined. Dare I say, ‘it was enjoyable’? I even came out of this with new PBs for 5k (35 seconds trimmed) and 10k (3 minutes trimmed)!!! Part of it was a new route, which is always an added thrill in itself.

My plans for glute work have been a bit half-hearted, I’m afraid. But I think it’s been a good week overall. Can’t complain.😃

Wishing everyone a wonderful week. Happy Questing!

Well done you... this is all sounding really positive. You faced the fear and you overcame it... what is the saying, "...nothing to fear except fear itself "?

You are well on the way and obviously, ( although maybe unexpectedly), enjoying it too.

Your tunnel looks really quite daunting.. turning around was a great idea... otherwise... you may have done some swimming!

Well done you ! Happy questing!

Hmm. I’ve just read your post about the tunnel Oldfloss…… Well I guess my quest needs to change for the time being as I am currently enjoying the plumped up cushions of the IC. 🛋. I am however allowed to walk, though I’m resting and icing my foot after. So I’m going to make my daily walks and physio exercises my quest for the rest of this month, and to post weekly, just for a chat with everyone. Xx
