Any Hoka fans out there whocan tell the difference between Clifton 7&8?

That’s basically my question !! Just noticed I’ve worn out my Hoka Clifton 7 - my first proper running shoes ! I must have done 1000km in them, according to Garmin, since July 2020 and this morning I noticed they were splitting where my bunions push against them ! But they’ve been so great I want to replace them with exactly the same and went online only to find now there’s a Clifton 8….. Any advice ??

I wear Hokas ( Arahi) and am on my 3rd pair . I transitioned well between the brand from Arahi 1, 2 and 3. I do notice a difference if I put my old ones on for gardening or a very muddy walk, the support to my foot feels different, but I didn't experience any adjustment issues running in the new ones. The only reason I'm not currently in Arahi 5s is because I managed to snag a couple of pairs of the Arahi 3s in a sportsshoes.com sale, sometimes there still some old stock knocking around 😀

Thanks - that sounds reassuring - hope they follow same principle for other models . various reviews I’ve read also suggest that the difference is not significant in terms of the main features, but with snazzy improvements !

A friend did the manchester marathon last year in the Clifton 8 and its super supportive. I tried it myself but it was just too soft for me. Went with the brooks glycerin instead. Slightly more responsive. Have a look into the new balance fresh foam series as well. So many good options in the max cushion category out there.

I haven’t owned either as they did not feel the same as my Clifton 5s. That said, I did do a lot of reading last year when trying to find new shoes I was happy with and I’m pretty sure the main differences were that the 8 has more padding - including the tongue - so they may feel tighter on your foot? And that they feel slightly stiffer.

Thanks - I think I'll give them a go - it feels safer than the more adventurous 'try something different' - and means I don't have to go to the shop, can order online :) (though i might regret that !). Would have gone for a reduced price pair of Clifton 7s, but they weren't available in my size, so I guess they are phasing them out.
