Oh my goodness. In my wisdom I thought I’d do today’s Magic Plan w1r3 5.5k run straight after my Pilates class, as last week I’d finished the class feeling like Tigger feeling all loose and limbered up with bags of energy.
A quick change of trainers at the car park and I was off. Within moments the drizzle had started and it progressively got heavier as I headed towards the river. I didn’t have my waterproof jacket and almost turned back at this point, but I wasn’t going to give the wet gremlin the satisfaction.
As I approached the river path a wide expanse of slippery mud lay ahead. It wasn’t the deep oozy kind that suckers off your trainers, but the thin skittery kind, where the ground still feels frozen hard underneath and you can go slip-sliding with no effort at all. I navigated it gingerly and managed to stay upright 👍🏼 .
I headed along the river path and over the bridge in front of The Ruins and followed the track to do a loop of the polo fields and two loops of the rugby and cricket grounds, before heading back along the river and returning to curve around the pond before heading back to the car park. By this stage I was soaked through and starting to feel the cold, so I only did a couple of minutes of a cool down walk before retreating to the warm and dry of my car.
Once home, stretches, a hot shower, a big mug of hot coffee and a huge chocolate cookie followed in quick succession.
Feeling warmer now and satisfied that I knuckled down and did it, I am finally smiling and off to make another coffee before starting work☕️💻
Fabulous!! Nothing like a hot shower and a hot drink (plus cookie!) after running in the rain 🌧️ very well done, you showed those gremlins where to go! 💪👏👏👏
Thank you Beatles. I think I might need to give that route a chance to dry up a bit before I head that way again. Temperatures are due to plummet over the next few days and I think it’ll be lethal if it freezes - likely to turn into a skating rink I think ⛸!!
Yes, I read you’d had a soggy run too. It was very changeable this morning. By the time I reached the car it was that really fine soaking drizzle, but by the time I’d reached home it was hammering down again. I’ve been sat still working all afternoon and still haven’t warmed up properly. Time to light the fire I think!
Well done on doing that run after pilates! Very impressive. That muddy path looks a bit of a challenge as well. Onwards to 10K - you'll be there in no time.
I love your description of the mud 😊👍I hate that kind. I slip slide my way down a field footpath covered in that type every day at the moment when dog walking.Big 👏👏 for carrying on in obviously horrible weather.
Love your photos and descriptive run report.. that’s a lot of fields to run around, I wonder how close they are and whether the balls ever go into the wrong fields 😅 you must be happy to have another run in the bag despite the mud and rain well done 👏
Turning back was tempting but I’ve really got to stick to my run days to get through the plan before my 10k event. There’s a little wriggle room but I didn’t want to pinch a day so early on.
