One sentence....."you're not built for running are you?"...assume its because I have boobs, I'm not overweight.
Why do people think its ok to say things like that???

Itβs called invalidation. It makes jealous people feel adequate.
Iβm βnot built for runningβ either. Who cares?
Yeah you're right... just knocked the wind out of my sails a bit.
That is just soooo dumb π. I hope you biffed them on the nose π€¬
What does "built for running" look like? Do they look like that?
"ar.......le" indeed!Something similar has happened to me a few times.
Reaction is usually shock, upset then anger and finally the realisation that they're not even worthy of provoking such responses.
Don't let them knock the wind out of your sails, be yourself and carry on doing what you're doing, for yourself. You are awesome.
People don't taste their words before spitting them out...pure jealousy! x
Humans are build for long, slow running. You are a human, therefore you are built for long, slow running. Every organ in your body, from your heart to your brain, will thank you for it. Good luck xx
π‘π‘π‘π‘How very rude!
Why people think they can make derogatory comments like this I do not know π€π€·π»ββοΈπ€¦π»ββοΈ
You seem to be running just fine!
I'm sure I am not build for running either. I am pretty sure I am build for hanging on the couch, watching TV π
It would be so lovely if people like this didnβt affect how one feels but like you, I would feel really upset and deflated by such a comment. No one who does and can run would make such a comment as they would know how hard it is to actually get out running so I agree with other posts that itβs jealousy. I guess the positive is that youβre making strangers (in all senses) feel so jealous that they canβt keep their jealous comments inside. Good for you!
So sorry to hear that youβve had to experience that awful comment while running. And I hope that the solidarity from everyone here will help heal the scars it leaves. You are a runner. You have had the courage to start running; the dedication to continue. You are amazing. You will be even more amazing. Go run 2022!
Just plain rudeness. π‘π‘ You are doing something positive for your health and wellbeing and they are just jealous. Keep doing what you're doing. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Eejits! (I'm being polite!)Glad you're over it now. I expect they thought they were hilarious... Not built for comedy π€£
Ah, the poor arrogant fool. Take a look at the runners at every race and park run. We are all sizes and shapes, we are all built for running. It reminds me of a relative who scoffed at me when I said I run 5ks. "Not worth it, I wouldn't do less than 10k in a race" Not long after I was in my first 10k race, so was he. (I should also point out, he is 20 years younger and over a foot taller). He shot off like he was in the Olympics, and I ran my own race. At 9k, I spotted him up front, and going verrry slowly. And I reeled him in. He had cramp apparently. "Great fun this run" says I, and ran on. A few yards from the finish line, I heard him come running up behind me. So I broke into a sprint, and crossed the line seconds in front if him. I was like a dying dog, and about to throw up, but oh, it was worth it!
You'll get your chance to reply...with a medal and a finish line photo. The s@#t!
Trying to close people down like this is so awful. I'm so sorry you experienced such rudeness.
As I read your post I just wanted to tell them to f*** off. Some people are just awful and will never get the enjoyment out of life that us runners do.
Keep on doing what you're doing x π
π Time to forget this idiot and move on; they are not worth a moment of your attention. π
Oh Maz1103 , surely you've noticed that all proper runners are built exactly the same? Usain Bolt and Mo Farah, for example. Or Paula Radcliffe and Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce. All from the same Playmobil mould.
I'm raging that anyone would dare to be so rude and undermine you in this way. If you'll be encountering them again, tell them to come back when they can run like you can. Then comment that they're clearly not built for intelligence, kindness, or manners.
I've had comments like that being a lady with a large chest. My sports bra is good at holding them still but makes them look even bigger! I normally shout back they must be jealous or if I can do it with big boobs they would find it a doddle, normally shuts them up
Well I think the comments here say it all! They are the one with the problemβ¦we runners come in all shapes and sizes and that is the beauty of it. Run on and be proud!π
We're all built for running, it's just that so many don't. Personally I have decided that I'm not built for speed πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Why do people think they can say things like that? Iβm not built for running either BUT it can be easier said than done - look at the facts: how many runs have you completed? How far is your longest (distance or time) run? Ask yourself some questions like that and then youβll have the answer - you can run (probably further than ar. le!) you are a πββοΈ runner x
How rude. Iβm also βnot built for runningβ Also heard the black eye jokes!? Itβs usually other people who wish they were doing it and arenβt xx
I don't know either. Don't let it get to you Maz - you are the runner and you know it! You don't need to qualify for Team GB to enjoy what you do...
So presumably this person was:
a. Not a runner.
b. Lacking βcourtesy filtersβ or had quaffed too much π· πΎ π₯!!
You ARE the bigger person - enjoy your lovely running. π
These sort of people never fail to shock me. Thats a stupid thing to say"not built for running". It doesnt even make sense. People who say things like that are usually projecting their own hang ups and insecurities. You just carry on !
Ooof what a thing to say. Sorry you came across such a person. Just be very smug that you're proving them very wrong.
What an idiot. Keep running!
