Does anyone put their running shoes in the washing machine?? I'd love them to look good again!
Shoes?: Does anyone put their running shoes... - Bridge to 10K
Shoes?
I have done in the past in an old pillow case but it took ages to get them dry again but otherwise they were ok.
I'm a natural scruff-bucket who likes to run trails, so I'm more interested in how my shoes perform than how they look. That means washing machines are a definite no.
After a run I scrape or brush the worst of the mud off my shoes, remove the (gel) insoles, stuff them with newspaper if they're really wet, and put them to dry near the central heating boiler. If they're lucky they'll get an extra brushing once they're dry.
I just do the same as Cmoi, I’ve saw me rinse them under the tap not soaking and scrubbing with nail brush and leave to dry under radiator. I would be scared they shrank or out of shape.
Today I stamped in the puddles near the end of my run, i don’t think you are supposed to put them in the washing machine but i have done in the past, just beware though, I put my favourite white reeboks in the machine on a 60 degree wash and they came out looking pristine but minus their soles
That's very funny!
Wasn’t at the time or even when I told a friend at work who brought me some rubber glue she said would fix them, sadly the bin men had been so i couldn’t dig them out again, but they did look funny
Sorry! I laughed too. I've often wondered whether to or not. So far not.
I do most days as I run on muddy grass - ASICS - and they seem fine
I certainly don't as it can damage them .Take a look at this.

I've read it now, but would never think of them going in a hot wash anyway, only a 40' if I did, and would have hand cleaned first!
40C is still too hot. If you're going to do it (I wouldn't) then a cold wash (less than 20C) is best.
I always heard they can get damaged when putting in a washing machine. Same for a dryer. And neither can you put wet running shoes right next to a heater, that would also damage them...
I have washed my shoes in a old pillowcase and put them in the airing cupboard to dry. It works well. Most of the time though, I wipe my shoes with biodegradable baby wipes.
I've washed many trainers in the washing machine but not since I started running. A cool gentle wash will make them look new again...but probably won't do all the supporting structure inside much good.My old ASICS were 10 years old though I hardly wore them for the first 9 1/2 years. They were washed a few times. After I did c25k I hurt a ligament. When I showed the shoes to the physio he was able to bend them in half, don't know if that was down to the washing machine but my new ASICS just get rinsed and scrubbed.
I have with every day trainers and they’ve always come out nice and clean, but generally they never feel quite the same, so I wouldn’t do it with my running shoes just in case 😊.
After my 5k muddy run for charity earlier this year I was left with a pair of muddy and stinking shoes. Following lots of advice from the good people on here I found the best solution was washing my shoes by hand, stuffing them with paper to get rid of as much moisture as possible then air dry outside prior to radiator drying. I then lobbed in Zoflora and baking soda and salvaged my shoes.
My feet now smell of lemons 🍋 🤣🤣🤣
Oooh No I would never put my running shoes in the washing machine. They cost too much to add wear in any way.
And might break up the tec to them
They would take ages to dry
Cheap trainers yes
