Hello I’ve been doing the bridge to 10k plan and followed it I just did the first 8k run and managed it just but it took me 1 hour should I carry on with the plan or go back until I can do 8k quicker I know it’s not all about times but can’t help getting dishearten with the time
Any advice would be appreciated

Well done on running 8k! I think you will find that one hour is a very respectable time on this forum, so please don't be disheartened! And definitely carry on, you are doing great, and there is plenty of time to worry about getting quicker in future, should you wish to, although personally I prefer to run at my own happy pace ☺️.And to cheer yourself up, don't forget to claim your 60 minute badge - you should find the link in the pinned posts below.
Do bear in mind that where you run can have a significant bearing on your speed - I may manage 10k in just over an hour on a flat gravel path, but on my normal hilly fields and tracks I would be very happy to run 8k in 1 hour, any faster would kill me 🥵! You also say that you 'just' ran 8k. If you found it tough (and demoralising) you can always repeat the longer runs until they feel more comfortable. Make the plan your own - that 10k will be waiting for you when you feel ready.
I would think if you stuck to the plan, through to 10k, not only would you have gained some confidence to run in fun 10km events, but if you then ran an 8km distance, your time will be quicker.
So I would stick with the plan and not be trying for best times while doing it. Running easy will naturally build your strength and stamina.
8k is awesome, I did that plan and 8k took about one hour twenty minutes my 10k took one hour forty three minutes and the only reason I don’t run it more often is I rarely have nearly two hours for a run, if I was you I’d carry on and take it slow, it’s really not about speed but you could well find your shorter runs getting faster because of the longer steady runs
That's brilliant! I would concentrate on a mix of short runs and gradually longer runs. Speed doesn't matter, but perhaps doing a few speed intervals on your short runs is an idea. It all depends what you want out of running. Unless you're aiming to race, just enjoying your gradually longer runs might be enough.
You're right Duckaroo , it's not all about times. As others have said, so much depends on terrain and your personal approach to running. I've been running almost 19 months and personally much prefer trails, hills and elevation to speed. You're far more likely to continue with your runnning if you do what suits you rather than telling yourself you should be faster.
Fwiw, I did a 14k run this afternoon at a slowish (for me) average pace. It also involved lots of elevation, glorious views, a stop to take photos of donkeys, and another to chat and walk with a lady I didn't know, plus her two dogs. It made me happy, and that's what counts.
Hi well done, on your 8K👏👏👏. I think 8K is 1 hour is a very respectable time on a longish run. I have just done my first 8K in 1 hour and just under 8secs and I am thrilled with that. It also depends on the terrain you are running on. I can run so much faster downhill😁, but really slow down when I hit one of the many inclines around here. I have come to the conclusion that slower is often better especially when running longer distances. It still builds stamina. I’m following Ju Ju’s Magic Plan and in it you do run two weeks of 8K and two weeks of 9K if memory serves, so I would think there would be no problem doing another 8K before moving on. I’m not sure I would necessarily try to run it any faster as I think what you’ve achieved is great and you will naturally get faster anyway the more runs you do. Yes there’s is another 8 k due on Sunday I’ll give that a go ..I ran 5 k today. Just set 5k on my Garmin turned off pace and I had the best run yet 32 mins so I’m going to concentrate on the distance and try and enjoy it more .thanks for advice
Congratulations on your first 8k in a very good time. I took about 90 mins the first time I did 8k. I agree with what others have said here - slower longer runs that you enjoy is far better than putting yourself under a lot of pressure to hit a certain speed. 👍👏
8K in an hour. That makes 10K (very soon) in about 75 minutes very do-able. A lot of "races" have a 90 minute cut-off (not all) so you'll be fine. My first aim is to get back to 10K. Then get under 90 minutes. Scratch that - my first aim is to get over Covid! I feel much better already and will be desperate to get out when I'm free on Christmas Eve if I'm OK. Perhaps a short 3K to begin with! You're doing fantastic - just enjoy running!
I did the time (60 min) version of thsi when I did it. I also ran 8k in that time, so you're on a par with many. I then went back to week 6 of the distance version (the 8k week) and followed the plan again from that point to get to 10k which I ran in 1 hour 20.
