Injury!

So I started Couch to5K 18 months ago, continued to 10 and then found I was happy between those 2 distances running 3 times a week. Lost loads of weight, felt really healthy and was talking to the GP about getting off BP meds

Then disaster struck, I dropped a table top on my foot, and then followed the very sensible regime of jacking up on morphine and alcohol and keeping going for 7 days. This ended with a very embarrassing incident at the MOT station and finally I went to a minor injury unit for x ray and help. To the surprise of everybody there is no break, the swelling, bruising, cold and numb areas plus the pain level all indicated a break, but it was not so consultants consulted consultants and it had to be concluded that it is just bruising, but there is significant arthritis in my big toe. I had had no awareness of this and it has not caused me any problems. Now obviously I am in a boot thingy, foot up and needing to be treated via my GP-I had pain related high blood pressure nose bleeds, so right now running is out of the question.

I need to apologise in advance I am in a lot of pain so might seem a bit bonkers. What would really help, as well as buckets of sympathy, is any advice on running with arthritis, am I doomed or are there ways through it, any links and stuff I can read through to plan ahead, I really do not want to lose my running

Is it rheumatic arthritis or osteo-arthritis? Because I know that against osteo-arthritis (known as arthrosis in Belgium) nothing can be done to solve the pain and such besides painkillers. But I have rheumatic arthritis and I am on several medications amongst which a 4-weekly IV which helps me tremendously. With these meds, I have no pain and can do everything as a healthy person. So if it is rheumatic arthritis, I'd suggest to visit a rheumatic specialist to assist in finding the right meds.

pretty sure it was osteo, but to be honest my head was all over the place so I will need to go over it with my gp

My wife has both types of arthritis and she has been told by the specialist to carry on exercising as it will not make it any worse. Hope you get some good news and get back running soon.

Thankyou, slivers of hope are a major help at the moment, crumbs I am miserable just now, but I know it will pass. I am planning on starting again in the new year and Chi running sounds like a plan

Buckets of sympathy from me. I reached 10k then wanted to enjoy myself at 30 mins 4 times a week - stepped it up to 5 times a week and sustained a calf injury. Only just back running/ walking . I really hope you get back on your feet soonish
