Week 6 disappointment...

Little disappointed with my 55 minute run today as allowed the Gremlins to get me on 3 separate occasions. Managed to bat them away within a few minutes and did actually run for 55 minutes in total with the 3 little gremlin stops but disappointed I wasn’t able to complete the full 55 minutes without stopping... trying not to be hard on myself but feel a little disappointed ☹️

Don’t be disappointed, Sunnytom, there’s always another run to go for. 🙂

I watched a good video on this topic last night, a coach teaching a mixed class of runners, some seasoned athletes and some beginners. It was about the brain going into natural defence mode; the body can more than handle it, the brain says “let’s not”.

He said it affects all runners at some point, then they learn ways to shut the brain up. Eliud Kipchoge said his secret weapon was to smile! Whenever the gremlin appeared, he’d force a great big smile on his face.

Kipchoge said he noticed the other runners looking at him sideways and probably thinking, “What’s making this guy so happy?!” and he found that was a psychological advantage too.

😀

Thank you. That sounds very interesting. Definitely psychological with me but once those doubts hit my brain so hard to keep them at bay...

Sometimes the stops can be positive choices and sometimes exactly the right thing to do… You ran your 55 minutes and that’s to be celebrated. Took focus and persistence and a desire to overcome hurdles.+ We often learn far more (about a run , about ourselves, etc…) when things don’t go to plan than when they do.

If you follow the accounts of other runners here you'll notice there are some days when the magic just doesn't happen.

Don't fret over it. There are other running days ahead.
