10km and delighted!

Tonight I achieved something I did not think possible. I ran my first ever 10km, and now feel like doing cartwheels of joy. I am so delighted!

I only set out to run 8km (as my furthest run so far is 7km), but I just kept on going, I am exhausted but have a great smile on my face. It's not been easy at all, but I knew I needed to keep on going at a slower pace and keep telling myself that I could do it.

Job done!

Congratulations on your first 10k 👏👏👏It's a great distance to run ! 😁

Don't forget to claim your 10k graduate badge !

Drop damienair a note here and I'm sure he will have a badge ready and waiting.

Thank you Instructor57. I certainly will ask for my 10km right now, I wasn't sure I'd ever manage the distance.

They will get easier ! I remember my first 10k was tough !

It's all about the pace 👍

Huge well done OW! It’s a massive milestone and you should feel proud of yourself! Though if you have energy to do cartwheels, perhaps you could have gone even further 😆!

😆 thanks oldgirlruns . I don't actually think I could do a cartwheel anyway!

Neither could I OW - at least not without a block and tackle!

Yay OrkneyWillow, that’s brill. I think some of our best runs come when we least expect them and you just proved it. Hurrah! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks Frenc. I was going to run 8km. But I thought, 8km is so close to 10km - I should really just crack on and try it anyway 😅.

Well done!

You told yourself you could do it; now you can tell everyone else that you did it. 👍

Thanks so much nowster. I certainly will, but it might take a while to sink in, as I still can't quite believe I did it 😁.

I just couldn't believe it, and still don't! The last 1km was very hard.

Yes I remember that last 1k but having got to 9k we just are determined to keep going aren’t we? and then the magic 10k is done 😀

Yes a great achievement, and it feels like a bit of a dream. I can't quite believe I did it!

First 10K is great. Consolidate a bit before moving up in distance or you might end up on the IC like I did. Thankfully I was only out for one month. But that was one month too long.

OrkneyWillow profile image
OrkneyWillowGraduate10 in reply to Rennur

Yes Rennur, I certainly will I think I'll do a couple of shorter runs each week, and then try 10km once a week? That's my draft plan anyway 😀

Wow, well done! It’s a HUGE achievement and you should be very proud!

It does get easier, I promise! But you’ll never forget your first 10K, especially if, like me, you couldn’t imagine yourself ever being able to do it!

Many congratulations! 🏃‍♀️👍👏👏👏

Hi Jools2020 👋 Thank you 😊. I am still so pleased with my achievement. Went out for a run today, but still feel a bit tired after my 10k. Managed a 6km today . Happy running 🏃‍♀️

We'll done! This is very inspiring. 👏👏👏The furthest I've run so far is 7k and your post makes me feel 10k by the end of the year is achievable.

OrkneyWillow profile image
OrkneyWillowGraduate10 in reply to buzzards

Hi buzzards. I'm blushing to hear that I have inspired you. Another thing I never thought would happen. Thank you very much for your kind words. I have pushed myself and tried to stay motivated, all in the aim of keeping my mental health in good condition. However, I am also now appreciating the other ways running can help. I've noticed my jeans are getting loose and I don't feel guilty when I east cake 😀. Keep up the good work.
