1st 10k in 15 weeks, I feel happy 😊

After a couple of months of ill health with only a couple of runs I've been taking it very easy lately. Usually I'd push myself but after a few times feeling better then getting poorly again I decided I had to be patient with myself...not easy for us runners! 😏

During the last 6 weeks I build up from 3k jeffing twice a week to 3k running, then 5k with some jeffing as needed & finally 5k two/three times a week. It made me realise how great being healthy enough to do a 5k is. I think I'd forgotten as I'd developed a habit of saying, I ONLY did 5k today as if it wasn't much of an achievement! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

After a few days away where I wasn't able to run I decided as I was so well rested today was a good day to head out on an old 10k route & see how I got on. 🀞

It was great, I walked 3 times for a short while to reduce my HR when it went a little too high on some of the more hilly sections (61 meters of elevation so there's a few hills) but apart from that I was able to run the rest without any problems. Breathing was fine & the legs didn't feel too bad either...I'm so pleased, running is awesome. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŽ‰

Well done Run46 for having the patience to allow yourself to ease back into running gradually. It’s so tough when you want to be out there but you can’t! πŸ™That sounds like a great run to me. πŸ˜€πŸ‘

That's a great way to come back and I applaud your patience !I am in a similar position with not much running lately for a number of reasons, then needing to do a few short runs to build up again .

Then after a couple of 5k's the niggles start up again !

These things are sent to try us !

So we'll done on getting back to 10K πŸ‘

A lovely post to read. It can be hard to be patient so well done for getting back to 10K the right way!

I totally understand when you say β€˜only a 5K.’ It’s funny how your perspective shifts. A 5K is still worthy of its own big sparkling badge. I’m trying to reach it again myself and I’ll be so happy when I do!

Happy running 🌟

Thanks...yes, when you're building back up to 5k it reminds you just how much work it took the 1st time. Good luck & enjoy 😊

Haha I recognize myself in saying 'just 5K'. Last year I started running mid November and running 60 seconds was HARD. Now I am like 'oh I am going for only 5K' as if 5K is nothing. But realizing this it does feel great that 5K (40 to 45 minutes) is so easy now. Shows that the physical condition has improved!

Yes, that's an alternative view...if your running is going so well that you can say, 'I won't be long, just doing 5k' then you're obviously in a good place 😊
