So I don't know if this is a genuine boost or a phycological one, but now I have moved out of London I cycle on my non running days - its been about 6 years since I have cycled but really love it and have been on the saddle for a couple of weeks now. I went out for my usual 5K today at lunch and ran a PB without really feeling like I was pushing it. My new 5K trial is also very hilly with 90m of climb so I'm doubly surprised.
Does anyone know if cycling/running muscles are similar/complementary and if this is actually a physical benefit to my running?

Absolutely a benefit to your running ! Cycling helps improve running performance by developing fitness, stamina and endurance without damaging your leg muscles. It's a great low impact cardiovascular workout 👍
Up until I got injured in May, I was doing about 4.5 hours of running per week, supplemented by 3x 1 hour rides on my static bike. That extra 3 hours undoubtedly helped my running fitness.
