“Every morning brings a new day...move away from what was and forward to what is. "
Hello there fellow Questers!
Huge apologies for posting this so late and a whole day late!
I have been speeding around since Sunday and am still trying to catch myself up.
This Quest has been so far, successful for me and I am pleased with the progress made. Some areas are going to need work on them in the next Quest...but new plans are already forming and I am hoping, with some links from the Strength and Flex forum, to stay on track.
I completed the 5K Race for Life in Caernarfon last Sunday and it was wonderful. Money raised was pleasing too. Legs felt good, steady pace in a great atmosphere and in a stunning location.
I was a tad nervous ,as the Race For Life, last year, done solo, because of lockdown, was my last 5K run before my October blip. The niggly jiggles were there, but on arrival at the location, filled with sunlight, sky and sea. all the doubts disappeared and I knew I was going to be okay,
But, I really need to know what you are up to. I do know that many of you reporting in last week had already met or nearly met some of your fantastic targets, with a week to go. Lots of folk too, still doing what they are able to, taking the time to run and making time for themselves also. This is so, so important for us all!
Please reply and let us all know where you are in this last week, how you feel about making the most of it too.
This is the FOURTH week of the September Quest - so you could join in with this last week, or, make plans for the beginning of the NEW Quest for October!
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I would like to...
Each week, I will put up a new post, so we can chat and see how we are all doing!
Hopefully the warmish snap will continue as we move on .
Wishing you a final, wonderful week of safe and happy running! towards those targets💥

Hello Oldfloss and congratulations on your Race for Life and raising much needed funds.
I’ve run a hilly 3k , a parkrun and a 13k long run since my last update. I really struggled with the end of the 13k because it was sunnier than forecast and I overheated a bit. But with a few little walks at the end I made it. I will try and do the 13k again before moving on to 14k I think.
Happy questing everyone.

I think I missed replying to your last post and I am sorry!! I got very excited over my running race and a lot of things got forgotten! You are doing wonderfully, and I do feel that this little warm spell has surprised many of us!
Just making sure you are happy with the 13K before moving on, seems like a great idea
I shall be so interested to see how you have done when I post the last week, reflect , post
Oh don’t worry Oldfloss, I was very late in posting last week. Im not running at parkrun this week so I may be better prepared for the long run next week.
I’m with you on hills. My hubby laughs when I say “up this hill”. But when I ask what he calls them, he only comes up with “undulations”. So I stick with hills on my runs and hilly runs! 😂 and as I’m running alone, only my perspective of elevation matters! 🤣🤣👍🏽🏔🏔🏔 southsea castle looks like a great place to run, by the way. 🏰
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Dexy5
If it ain't flat it is a hill...maybe a small one, but still a hill.
Oh my, the time is going by so fast, I thought you were being exceedingly prompt, not late at all!
I haven't done my medal run (or any runs) and I am recovering from an exhausting city break with lots of walking, so I had better not rush that attempt but the Quest is a very timely reminder that I can't postpone it too long.
Ticking along with the yoga.
So glad you got your bogey run in the bag and bashed fears of nascent recurring blips on the bonce.
I really did bash them... moving in and leaving the dragons behind!Well done you, keeping that Yoga going and you did get loads of walking in, which is great!
You have got a few days left to recoup, recover and get some runs in?
I shall be watching for your posts, and thank you x
Hi Oldfloss. Well done on your Race For Life 5k 👍🏼, and good to know you relaxed and enjoyed the run 😊.
So how has my Quest been?
🏃🏼♀️ My daughter's C25k graduation last Friday means that part of my quest is a big success, with all the effort down to her - I just kept her company but it has succeeded in getting me running 3 times each week 😀. I am pleased to say she's been out for two solo runs since we dropped her to start uni last Saturday (ooh, tough day - emptying nest....). There is a fantastic park next to her halls of residence which is really popular with runners and has its own resident Parkrun, so I'm hoping she'll take part eventually. She wants to scout it out first.
🧘🏼♀️ Yoga is happening more regularly, but there's definitely room for improvement, so I'm carrying that over into October.
I hope everyone has enjoyed successes in their quests this month 🤗. D-d xx
Thank you for taking the time to do this OF - and congrats on your Caernarfon run! 👏
Against my 1st target - run 35K in the last week of the month, I ran 34K in the last week, and plan to do 35K in the 7 days to 30-Sep, so looking OK.
2nd target - keep HR below 140 bpm > 90% of the time on those runs. My pace was speeding up so I've made a new more stringent target of keeping HR below 130 bpm, and my last 2 runs have averaged low 120s - so that looks OK as well.
3rd and last - 500K steps - also on target. I was heading for 600K but tapered my steps to just hit the 500K target, so as not to risk aggravating a large blister I have on the underside of my right foot which might interfere with my running! 🤣
You are well on track and getting there with time to spare? That blister sounds very ouchy, so i do hope that is not going to influence your progress next week!
Hi Floss, well done on the Race for life, my quest at the beginning of the month was to run more often and I must say having a friend who’s really keen and if we say we will go on thursday we go on thursday means i’m just about back to running 3 times a week, so feeling pleased i’ve kept it up. Willow is resting his knee and was at the Brighton music conference today and tomorrow, he will run again next week
Congrats for the race for life! A belated Woohoo!!! 👏🙌👏🙌👏🏃🏼♀️
Me, yup, also ticked all my stuff off for this month, although none was too challenging… well maybe the 10k was.
So
✅ 5k world record
✅ 10k world record
✅ started on my planning of the next plan, e.g. the 10k consolidation plan for super slow runners (still undecided about a spiffier title). I’ve got the first three weeks all planned out and for me it will start in October together with the Pilates challenge.
So now I relax into the last days of September? A bit, anyway. But want to do a 9 or 10k again on Sunday to keep my momentum from last weekend. But my calves are feeling it a bit so I’m still cautious.
Next month: do the plan!!! 👁👁😅
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to CBDB
Do not underestimate your achievements... Celebrate them, and share them :)You have really had a great Quest , ( and a bit more of it left too), ticking off all those targets in style!
Juts enjoy the last few days, lovely slow relaxed, no pressure tootles. What I call my, see where I get to, runs. They often turn out to be very, very enjoyable.
Plenty going on in your head too and I am looking forward to your new plan with real interest!
Well done on the Race for Life! What I said at the start of the month was ‘My goal is to get back to going out three times a week again, though I'm going to be restarting C25K so may not actually run 5k by the end of the month.’
Well, I’ve managed three runs a week since returning from the injury couch on 4th September. Didn’t stick with C25K though, a horrible blister somehow made running more comfortable than walking so got straight back into NRC, Coach Bennett and Coach Cory have been brightening my mornings 😁
I’ve run 5km twice, the second time seemed quite easy so, as my local Parkrun isn’t on this week (the funfair is in town) I’m going to try and run 6 km very very slowly over the weekend. If I don’t manage it, no problem. These cool mornings are just so enticing!
Loving that last bit... " If I don't manage it, no problem... ". It is great to have targets and challenge ourselves but so good to go with what evolves.Really well done you.
That blister has slowed you down a tad but, you still managed your runs and that is great.
See how you go, and I shall be watching for your updates
Well done on R4L. The Edinburgh one in 2019 was my first ever "official" event after graduation so it will always have a special place in my memories.
After my HM on Sunday, I'm sort of taking things a bit easier. This Saturday should, all going to plan, see the return of the infamous "Saturday Strava Scribbles" as I take charge of my first match since February last year. There is also an outside chance that I might just hit 1,000 miles for 2021 before my birthday in 12 days time. Not deliberately trying for it, but it would be nice if it happened.
Thank you! I have done RFL for many years and they are always enjoyable, even last year running solo !Taking it steady, after a great HM, is certainly a good idea, and your target of hitting those 1,000 miles... I really hope you manage that without pushing too hard
I shall be watching for your posts with interest, and hope that first match goes well ! x
Good evening OF, hope you're well. Well done on completing your 5k race for life and for raising money for such a worthwhile cause. 👏🤗 I'm pleased to say that I am still on track with most of my September quests. 1) have done 1 of my 3 runs this week and am on track to do the other 2. 2) have completed 3 different parkruns for the 1st 3 saturdays in september and am scheduled to volunteer for my local parkrun on the last Saturday of September 3) Am increasing the time I run each week as per Ju Ju's magic time plan - started week 6 today 4) will have cross trained twice this week with a swim tomorrow 5) still struggling with 7 hours sleep a night though as I have to get up early to do some of my runs before work. Also not managing to switch off my screens 2 hours before bed - too much to do! 😬 Hope you have a good weekend and make the most of the mild weather 🤗
Thank you very much. Yes, every penny is wonderful! You are doing so well , and balancing those runs and your strength and stamina work.Your running seems to be well on track and the 10K is going well.
You are still struggling with that sleep though? Not sure how to sort that one, somehow, we do need to try and get back in what we are putting out.
I know how I managed it when I worked, but what worked for me may not work for you.
Very well done on all your successes ... and one week left!
In lieu of being able to do parkrun in Pwllheli last weekend I did my 5km in the back roads near Aberdaron. Maybe the next time I'm in the area the parkrun will be up and going again.
The previous week (with the HM) was nearly 70km of running, whereas last week was only 40km.
I didn't run on Sunday, but then did three consecutive 10km runs on Monday to Wednesday.
Hello! Beautiful.. some good runs around there, although a tad up and down, especially out of Aberdaron! The weather was good wasn't it and I did think of you... we were over that way on Friday!
You are doing brilliantly and those runs sound pretty impressive! I would like to be getting back to 10K at some point but it will be a while.
Good to mix things up too... some simple leg stretcher 5Ks, a few mid range and then those lovely, long relaxed runs.
Looking forward to seeing how next week goes for you!
I wouldn't be running into or out of Aberdaron village itself! That would be a proper hill climb. All the approaches are 1:7 or so.
I surprised myself how fast I was doing the 5k around the hilly north coast. I'm curious to see whether this week's parkrun time will show an improvement. (I don't plan to race it.)
Did you get as far as the sailing club at the top?
When we were holidaying near my parents in mid July, I'd often nip into Aberdaron, park in the NT car park (I'm a member) and get some rolls and croissants from the bakery there. Another good place for supplies is the butcher's (attached to the grocers) in Sarn -- there aren't many places that still do hand-cut bacon.
Ooo! Thanks for that..my Mum used to get flitches of bacon that we hung in our pantry !Just used to get to the turn for the caravan site, Morfa Mawr? on the right before collapsing in a heap Never noticed a sailing club... but that does not surprise me... I often miss obvious things!
Love the little museum there now too... haven't been in since the Pandemic though!
Dear Oldfloss,I'm glad YOU are having a warmish snap. WE are having a coldish, dreary snap! Even so, I managed to get my recent run in between one rain and the next. I also continue with the muscle exercises. I'm THINKING about a bit of yoga on my "off" day, but have not achieved that yet. But thinking is part of the battle, right? By the by, I love the quote you put at the beginning. It's a great one!
Yes, we are here with our monthly Quests... always a great place to check in, see what others are doing and share your successes and blips too!
Folk post all manner of targets, not just re 10K, but all manner of running and exercise related targets. My first one a few months back was to simply get out at least week for a run ; this was after illness and going from HM level, back to the beginning!
I have had a peek at your posts and see you well on the way to your 10K, and you seem to be enjoying the process.
A new Quest will be starting on October 1st, so it would be great to see you posting your targets and your experiences on there
Hi OF and fellow questers 👋 Well done on your Race for Life 👏🏻👏🏻
My quest is complete 😊 although I did say it was a relaxed one this month.
50k during the month complete. I’m currently at 52k. It’s been a busy week this week and I’ve only just managed to do a last minute 6k this morning. I tried out a new route which Strava measured as 7.5k (using Strava route builder) but NRC recorded as 5.89 🤷🏻♀️. It felt about 6k. I knew I hadn’t run 7k but it was a good route and a small extension to a favourite route. I ran on my own too which was a nice bit of head space after a crazy week.
Guinness book of records 10k run completed last Sunday. A steady, uneventful run but it was nice to run it with my step daughter and a friend. My hubby and the grandkids came out to cheer us on towards the end too 😊
So ‘‘tis done ✅ I am hoping to add another 15k to my total next week but it will depend on how the week pans out. No pressure 😉
No pressure... golden words!Huge well done you on all levels, especially that mileage, and time for you to leave the strains an stresses floating way as you took time for yourself!
GBR 10K... brilliant and maybe a bit on top next week. What a great Quest this has been for you... very well done!
Hi Oldfloss. Firstly, going to echo everyone's well congratulations for race for life, sounds like you really enjoyed it.
Well I did it! I completed a yoga session... in fact I've done 3&1/2 in the last week. You may wonder about the half.... but when I attempted my first session, my littlest boy woke from his nap early so we had a half hour snuggle on the sofa instead 🥰 I've started the home 30 days series, that was the first one I did and I like it.
And although not part of my quest, I competed c25k wk 5 run 3 last night. When I did run 2 earlier in the week I struggled but not with run 3. It still amazes me how much of this is in the mind. Really looking forward to getting to the continuous runs in a week or so.
I did and thank you!Huge well done you on your efforts, and, snuggles on the sofa, beat yoga sessions anytime... physical contact with our own small persons, can reduce our stress levels and lower our BP wonderfully!
This fabulous news re the runs too, and as you move on you are going to find everything eases into place again
I love your photo Oldfloss, very atmospheric 😊Congratulations on your 5k and wonderful that you've raised money for a good cause as well. I'm glad to hear that you had a lovely day and that the niggles didn't stop you👍
Well last week of was a case of ✅✅❌
... Yes I've replied too your p off at 😉😂✅
... Yes I actually did 4 core sessions, admittedly they were only 10 -15 minutes ones and on 5 days I completed my physio exercises ✅
... No I didn't run twice in the week, I only managed ones run off 6.5k. I'm blaming the sunny weather, I need the cool early morning air and just couldn't get out of bed 😉 so that quest is a ❌
But overall I'm pleased that I'm getting back into the core / physio exercise routine and thanks for all the core suggestions from my VRBs . I'm sure these will help keep the sniggles (sciatica niggles 😂) at bay.
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to dijep
Excellent... very well done indeed! You are doing really well and ticking off those targets is perfect! The warm spell ahs upended a few and when I ran a practice run of my RFL route on Wednesday before the race, it was 21 degrees! Thankfully cooler on the day!
Core sessions are core sessions.. well done and on the physio work too. You are right on track for a very successful Quest and, we do what we are able and we enjoy!!
