Stansted 10K - "naked."

My first 10K "race" and I did it without headphones. Rule of the game today. I still prefer music but running mainly in the countryside was distraction enough today.

First of all I must thank all the volunteers and the organisers. They were all terrific.

It was much more hilly than I am used too which was a challenge but I walked most of the tougher climbs ( at least part of them). 120m total ascent is nothing for some people, I tried to smash a short steep one but bombed 3/4 of the way ( good hill training interval though!)

I thought 100 minutes would be good. I got a chip time if 94'57" and a Garmin time of 94'19". ( I guess I didn't take the "racing line"!) I almost caught up with the lady I spoke with at the 1K mark who was about 200m ahead of me at one stage but she must have heard me trying to sprint past her at the end and beat me by 3 seconds. She definitely takes a lot of credit for getting me an offic8al

Not fast at all but I am slow - I am yet to go under 42 minutes at Parkrun. But my time makes me think that a sub 90 minute 10K ( often a cut off time) is possible on a flat course ( and a lot more training). This time last year I had just completed Week 1 of C25K. I'd call that progress!.

Last bit: big up to Mrs R who came and walked the course in a very respectable 1 hour 54'38". She was last ( no tailwalker - only a tail cyclist!) Last time some walkers took over 2 hours so she would have beat them ( or more probably slowed down for a chat!)

Well done, sounds like some seriously tiring hills you had to tackle! And jeej, another world record runner!

👏🏼🎉 to both you and Mrs R! No headphones in the countryside is lovely on a good day. And you conquered those hills. 💥

Great effort, well done tackling those hills. Hill work certainly builds stamina, shortening your stride helps. I always run naked, do try it again sometime. Happy running 🤗
