I'm now on week 5 of the Magic Plan and it's going well. I've managed to find routes for the various distances - this morning's run was a 5k - Strava shows I did 5.06k
Unfortunately I was interrupted by an old man asking directions, so I had to stop for a short while to answer him, then when I got to the end my watch was congratulating me for having climbed double my target of "floors" so I couldn't stop the run until the watch finished I'll need to find out how to stop it doing that...
As to the run itself, I got to about 2k and as I visualised the remainder of the route I felt I still had a very long way to go - but I just kept plodding on and suddenly I was at the end (after doing my good deed of the day!)
I'd not been checking my watch but as I approached the final corner before home I felt it couldn't possibly be 5k already, and had a panic that I'd run the wrong route. To my relief it showed 4.99 k
So in the end it was an easier run than usual - next up is 8k on Sunday morning, then building up to 9k next week ...
I'm sure I'll manage it!

Too bad about the man asking directions, even though you did a good deed. Whenever I am running and I have to stop for example to let a car pass (not walk, but really stand still), it hurts a bit to start again. It's a really weird feeling, but it is actual pain that I then feel. It is over soon after a few steps, but still. So I don't like having to stop.
But you're already at 8K this weekend? That is going well, no?
I did 8k last Sunday and the plan is to run 8k again this weekend. I found it hard to run 8k last week but I am hoping it will be easier next time. Now I am running 3 times each week I think it will help as I increase my distance.
I sometimes see people jogging on the spot while they wait to cross a road for example, but I didn't do that today. Maybe if you did that you wouldn't suffer the pain you mentioned?
Ah, you did 8K already? I kinda skipped over 8K and 9K. The plan was to do 8K, but once I was at 7K in that run, I thought '10K is only 3K more than what I did not, that should be easy right?'. And somehow I actually did 10K (thus skipping over 8 and 9) 😂.
Jogging on the spot could help, but when I run in the polders amongst the fields, I sometimes have to crawl into the very very tiny spot of grass between the road and a ditch to let a car pass by. I don't think I dare jog on the spot there, being afraid to fall in the ditch...
I had that pain so much on one run back in April (after having to pause for 10 minutes for a canal boat to pass under a lift bridge) that I couldn't continue the run.
Ah, it is something others also experience? Thought it was my fragile body talking, haha. Good to know it is a 'known' issue. Not good of course that it exists.
Another factor was that my hamstrings were already starting to give me discomfort in that run, especially when I was going downhill, so it was a more extreme version of the effect. I've never had it that bad since.
