Thanks to everyone who urged me not to run yesterday after my epic drive the day before. I set off this morning instead, relaxed and refreshed, and did NRC's 40 minute run.
I actually changed my running route to shake things up a bit (before Coach Bennett suggested it lol). This was great except that the path, through just-harvested fields, ends by a small industrial estate where they build ocean going rowing boats. Decided to turn round at that point but then a car pulled up at the point where the path met the roadway. Horror of horrors, someone I know! Not only that, he holds (or held) the record for solo rowing across the Atlantic so he's naturally super fit and there I am, hot and sweaty in my running shorts (not even leggings). I don't know him all that well so gave a cheery hello, turned round and ran away as fast as my chubby little legs could carry me. To clarify, that's not very fast at all.
The only downside with the new route was that I couldn't instinctively judge distance like I can with my usual run so as I neared the end I had to backtrack a couple of times, but managed to finish just as I reached the end of the path through the fields. Managed 4.71 km in 40 minutes despite the heat (probably around 20-22 degrees C and no shade most of the way) which I'm very pleased with, so far so good no ill effects. I'm seriously considering doing Parkrun on Sunday as I can clearly do the distance if I don't push too hard. I've got a couple of questions about that so may post again later. Thanks for your patience
PS here's one of the fields with a nice view of the windfarms, though I'm not quite sure what the UFO is? Is it a bird? Is it a bee? Do I need to clean my lens?

Thanks, the one thing I do know about Parkrun is when it starts 😂 I was so hyped up the only time I did it I got up about 7.30, very early for me on a Saturday
I usually get up at 7.30-ish to get ready for Parkrun at 9am. I try to arrive about 8.40-ish so that I don't have to park too far away. (Walking there would take me about 45 minutes.)
The Parkrun course is about 10 minutes away from me. That was actually what I was going to post about. If I do my dynamic stretches at home then walk the kilometre or so to where it's held is that a sufficient warmup??
Most definitely! All you need is about 5 minutes of brisk walking. I usually do some warm up stretches whilst we're waiting around but I always have to take the first lap (of four) slowly as I know I'm not fully warmed up.
The UFO is Mega Mindy (you have to live in Belgium to understand this 😂).
Sounds like a good (though sweaty) run and don't be ashamed if you meet someone like that superfit guy! You're not sitting on your couch and that is what counts. Whether you run 5K or row across the Atlantic, you move!
Mega Mindy is a children's program. Mindy is a police agent who is also a super hero. And the song of the series (see here: youtube.com/watch?v=AunZWqH... has at a moment (translated to English) 'Is it an airplane? Is it a bird? No that is not it! It is Mega Mindy who you can see in the sky!'. For some reason I had to think about that, never actually saw the show, being 40 and all, haha.
I myself speak Flemish (it's the same as Dutch but with another way of speaking it, other dialects and such but basically the same words). The other half of our country speaks French. And then there is a very small part that speaks German. And no, no singing from me. I think I would scare the cats in a 10 mile radius... 😂
Nice report! I think the ufo looks like a flying running shoe? Did you notice any swarming around you? They can be a bit of a nuisance once their off your feet! 😉
Good run OBK, and in a lovely place. I know what you mean about bumping into friends when exposed to the elements mid run, maybe a bit sweaty and any makeup melted away! Although, at least you're not expected to stand and chat - and suddenly a sprint is possible! Good luck for your Parkrun, shame they don't do one later or early evening, some of us naturally run better later in the day.
Thanks Raisemeup, running before breakfast removes the possibility of makeup disasters! I'm not a morning person at all (which doesn't help with the sociability thing) so it was quite a challenge to allow time for my morning pre run stuff and be at Parkrun bright and early the one time I took part. I was so hyped up on the day I sprang out of bed, oblivious to everything and then completely overdid it. Won't make the same mistake again. I wish it was at 10am not 9am but I suppose it'd be way too hot in summer if they changed it. Also, for someone as slow as me it's be nearly lunchtime by the time I was done if it was any later 😂
