I have been so, so lucky, I am privileged to host the Quest again this month... I enjoyed last month so much, and we all had lots of fun whilst achieving great things!
I am still working out what to set for my targets this month, but I do know that , whatever the targets are, I shall be in in the right place, for support from other Questers.
If you are a newcomer to Quest, you will find so much unbelievable support here, from our running friends, all at different stages and all hoping to fulfil different targets.
It's the first week of the September Quest - do, please, feel free to join in with the fun
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I would like to...
Each week, I will put up a new post, so we can chat and see how we are all doing!
Maybe, we may even get a late, warm spell, as we often do at this time of the year too!
Wishing you a wonderful week of safe and happy running! 💥

Stay realistic, maybe upping your strength and stamina work on some rest days, ( got to keep the rest of the body in tune with the legs), and listen to your body too.
Your positive approach is going to get you there, believing you can do it... you're halfway there.
I did have a quest in mind, but it's currently on hold. What is it about the first weeks of months and me?
I have a nasty set of insect bites on my left leg which might need antibiotics (again).
I also got pinged this morning by NHS Test and Trace and coincidentally I now have a sore throat (no other symptoms). I had a PCR test at lunchtime and hopefully will be getting the result tomorrow.
I was hoping that this month would be the one I'd reach the HM distance. I did a really comfortable 10 miles on Sunday, set a PB for it, etc.
Oh Phooey! This is not the news we wanted and you have had, and are still a having, a rough time! Those bites sound horrid. (I know with mine, I had two weeks of a hefty antibiotic dose).
They are really are more than an itch and do impact on our whole body, add the antibiotic fighting them too! Take it gently!
Then... pinged! Oh my goodness. Well!
Please, do let us now the results of your test and in the meantime... rest up, take care of you, and rest assured... the runs are patient, they wait for us x
Back on track! Did 5km today in the heat and it felt good. I don't care if I have ovals drawn on the leg in marker pen or that the bite marks are still visible.
Ok, I’m questing this month, as I have to admit to myself I am not a reliable quester… yet!
So my assortment:
1) 5k World Record:
I’ve signed up for the 04/09/2021 World Record 5k (End2End) which should be quite doable. And I have found now my perfect 5k route so I’m hoping to be part of more than 10k people running a 5k on Sat!
2) Questionable 10k World Record:
Similarly, I couldn’t help myself in putting my name, or rather ‘CBDB’, down for the Guinness World Record 10k on 19/09/2021 but I’m realising I haven’t run a 10k for at least 6 weeks due to heat and triffids. So I am pondering how I should approach it: a) walk run and walk quite a bit; b) ultra slow run and walk if need be ; c) run and risk injury ; or d) not at all. Not sure what I’ll be doing on this one.
3) NTC tester:
I’ve also signed up to be a tester for the new Nike Training Club app, so I’ll be busy trying out Yoga sessions, meditation and some nutritional ideas as well! And I’ll be running on NRC rather than my usual Runkeeper. So Coach Bennett and Cory, here I come!
4) daily YWA which I will not even mention in the future as it’s become a daily thing, like breakfast 😃
Ah! Yes I've seen that. I'm really keen to add regular yoga back in to my week too but am trying not to aim for too much at once. Sounds like this might be a good way in though? I love yoga and have done it for years but not consistently enough at the mo. I love the thought of it becoming a 'daily thing, like breakfast' 👍🏼🤣
A really good mix of targets there, but hopefully all complementing each other.
They also sound interesting too, that tester Role particularly, and I know we shall be watching for your posts on this
The 5K record run and the 10K record run, just great and you will find the right way for you, certainly a 'jeffed' run can mean the difference between enjoyment, or endurance!
I shall be watching for your posts, good to have you on the Quest!
I'm also planning to take park in the 5k world record on Sat. Do you know what the rules on distance are - can I run further than 5k? It would normally be my long run of the week, and I'd like to combine both without having to stop and start recording devices. I haven't seen anything online about this, I just wondered whether you (or anyone else) have any thoughts?
Ah, good Quest idea to include a break (I was thinking of swapping from Mademoiselle and her French breakfast pastries obsession back to that chap who talks about hippos)
Monster nettles, thorny bushes, brambles, too high grasses … just nature getting monstrous big, like in the book “Day of the Triffids”, which had walking plants taking over London and spitting at people. 🤣🌳🎋
I'm back to questing this month Although being unoriginal I'm actually just borrowing the Garmin September challenges!
Record 100,000 total steps by 14 Sep - given my twice weekly rounds of golf, 3 runs and Sunday long walks I think this one is fairly do-able! (Famous last words)
Weekend 5K between 24 Sep and 26 Sep - I'm at a wedding this weekend so will have to try and squeeze this in on the Friday - otherwise I'll never drag myself out of bed the Sunday after! Might also help counter the sure-to-be-consumed calories as well.
80.5K of running - will need to chip away at this one and either add in a few extra runs or up the distance of my current batch. I'm re-completing B210K after a long break, so as long I make some good progress on that I'm not too fussed about hitting 80.5K exactly!
Sounds good to me! Great targets there, especially squeezing a run in before a really happy weekend:)I feel the targets are achievable, and also very enjoyable. The Autumn days are brilliant ( or can be) for walks and golf!
You will love doing Bridge to10K again, many of have done this ( more than once too). Great for reinforcing our running skills and fun too!
I'd like to sign up for my first Quest please! I just graduated from C25k a couple of weeks ago so my challenges for September are:-
To keep going with my 30 minute consolidation runs for a couple of weeks then slowly extend to 5k (in whatever time it takes) by the end of the month (I'm at around 4.3km in 30 mins atm).
To restart my walking on in-between-run days, I've slacked at this for the last few weeks. Aiming to meet my 8k step goal 6 days out of 7 by the last week of the month.
I feel more positive already, having just shared those! 😊 Good luck everybody
Morning... :)Sound, simple targets... back to work for you, so they are realistic and achievable and will keep you happy. Well done, I shall watch for your posts
Hi again Oldfloss and fellow questers 👋👋Glad to have your encouragement for another month 😊
My quest for September is just to run regularly while my work/ life balance goes completely to pot! I’ve signed up with This Girl Runs to run 50km during the month to earn a nice burgundy t shirt at the end of the month. I’m hoping to achieve more but have set my target at a realistic 50km.
I have also signed up for the 10k world record attempt on the 19th Sept. That will be a nice bit of bling 🏅
I’m continuing to run with my friend who is aiming to increase her mileage beyond 10k so I’ll just fit in with her goals on that one having already achieved my goal of 10 miles last month. It will all add to my cumulative distance.
A laid back quest for me this month, just aiming to run regularly and enjoy it 😊
Thank you! Good to be here...:)Your month's targets sound very good and very achievable.
A realistic approach to your life style, whish is essential and something we try heard to help our new runners to see
A little treat at the end of that 50K attempt is a lovely idea and will spur you on, as will the bling after 10K ( gotta' love the bling)!
So good that you are supporting your friend, whilst also adding to your miles... and best of all... just running and enjoying. I shall watch for your posts!
Thanks. It’s always tough in September when I go back to work, which is very full on! It’s more important than ever to put the runs in the diary and stick to them.
Over at our sister forum Strength & Flex, We just started this months of daily Yoga practice so pop in when and where you want: healthunlocked.com/strength...
Hi there everyoneI'm still slowly and steadily working my way to back to 10k. I made up my own plan a couple of months ago and should be hitting 10k by the end of September/ early October. So my quests for September will be ...
*Keep to my twice weekly running plan, but be prepared to cut back if needed
* To do at least 1 core session and 3 sessions of exercises prescribed by my physio each week
* To remember to reply to the weekly quest posts 😂
My main aim this month is to reach 60 mins running, and all being well I should have done that by the end of the weekend. Otherwise, my quest is a bit up in the air. We have a holiday booked this month, and we will be doing long days of hill and coastal walking, so running will probably be paused for that week. Part of my quest will be finding a new routine of running as I go from mostly working from home to being back in the office full time towards the end of the month. So no real targets this month except to keep getting out there.
Hello OF! I got the OK from the physio to start running again but gently. My goal is to get back to going out three times a week again, though I'm going to be restarting C25K so may not actually run 5k by the end of the month.
Just great news!!! Start gently and see how it goes...it took me 3 months to complete my repeat of Couch...and only managed my first 5K since last September, on Sunday!!
Thing is, you know you are going to be okay if you listen to your body .
Thanks, I'll take your words of wisdom on board. I'm just so excited at the thought of running again AND getting new trainers I'm going to have to keep myself UNDER CONTROL and not forget that I am an old biddy not a spring chicken!!
You will, you will do it. I had the added incentive that I felt so weak for a long time after my blip in Ocotober, I did everything mega slow and steady! Even for me!But yes, it is exciting and so it should be...go you xx
Hello OF! I would like to set myself 3 targets please?
Firstly - in the last week I ran 29 km, in the last week of September I want to run 35 km, having slowly built up to that amount.
Secondly, over 90% of that running should be in Zone 2 or lower - which according to the zones automatically allocated on my watch is a heart rate below 140 bpm. On the 6K run I did this morning 94% of the time I was in Zone 2 or lower so hopefully this goal is achievable. In keeping my heart rate down my intention is to limit the stress I am putting on my body, and also to build an aerobic base.
And lastly, a step target of 500K. Last month I did 467K steps, so I just need to step it up a bit more!
Definitely up for more Questing with you Oldfloss please! I think September is my favourite month. But like you, feeling a bit undecided about what to choose.
1) Some new kit, bras 'n' bottoms - yes, it's a goal, I've been dithering and dithering
2) Yoga practice on 15+ days over the month
3) Running goals TBC - there's a medal I have my eye on but a) it is for a one off run and I feel the need for a 'little and often' goal and b) I want to see how I feel when my most recent medal arrives.
Hello again Floss - I don't need to explain what I'm up to, then!
I have changed last month's bright greens and yellows to pastel shades and will continue trying to move across the plot. Most of the low-hanging fruit has been gobbled up, I think, but maybe I can turn a couple of yellows green.
I've also got an exciting entry in the diary on 25th September when I make my debut as Run Director at Southsea parkrun ..... an entirely different sort of challenge!
Hi there...and I understand what is going on with you! I am convinced that you are going to get a,great harvest...with the strategies you are using, it ought to work.
Race Director sounds very important and we shall need a post and photographs, ( Dexy5 )
Looking forward to seeing how this month evolves for you x
Dear OF, Curiosity has the better of me: what is that a picture of? I have never seen such. It's quite interesting!
I'm glad to see you again this month and need your posts since, as you know, I'm just coming back from the pandemic and still isolated for family health reasons. Thus, I am running on non-flat home areas--not at ALL my favorite what with uneven ground, mosquitoes, and the like. Even so, it IS wonderful to be back in the game and feeling so good AFTER I've completed my running. In fact, today is a run and it is a challenge to get out since I have to get aging son to watch his dad and to do it when I'm revved up to run and not exhausted from other daily challenges. So--YES, I want to join the quest--and it is my intention to complete three runs a week and three strength efforts a week--the usual for the last month--and on alternate days.
Thank you SO MUCH for doing what you do. You are great!
Thank you for the identification. Where I live, I have not seen these things. However, we have lots of hickory nuts and the squirrels are going crazy over them right now running around in the trees and leaping from branch to branch with exceptional acrobatics. I love this forum. Today I learned what triffids are, too!
Well done you...especially, losing the freaking out. Run for fun, because you are able:)Making time for you is an admirable target, and it is a constant target for me, unwritten but there in every Quest .
The runs, as we have always said, are about far more than physical well being, and it is all too easy to get lost on the side tracks of work and worry.
Another great target on those miles for refugees too.
You have chosen some realistic goals there and I shall watch for your posts
PS
The hardest to reach, may be the, finding time for you... it takes practice, but slow and steady... you will do it
Thanks for organising OF!Please count me in. My quests for September are:
1) run 3 x times a week
2) Run 3 different parkruns for first 3 Saturdays and then volunteer for last one of the month
2) increase time run each week (following Ju Ju's magic 60 minutes plan)
3) cross train by doing at least 2 workouts every week from amongst the following swimming/yoga/ pilates /strength conditioning and long walks
4) get 7+ hours sleep every night. (I've been struggling recently with exhaustion I think due to lack of sleep so this one is key in order for me to achieve all of the above!)
Sleep is good... hard to find sometimes, but oh, so necessary. Your other targets sound super, and a lovely mix! Well balanced and all complementing the others.
I shall watch for your posts with interest to see how you fare, ju-ju- s plan is terrific. I have used it loads of times...
PS
There is quite a lot of info about exhaustion and sleep for runners...looking at your past posts, you have really been doing an awful lot since Graduation. Maybe some of this info could be helpful to you? x
Yes, sleep is sooooo important. Thanks for the articles. Interesting that they come up with different conclusions. It never occurred to me that doing more exercise than usual could actually hinder my sleep! I have cut back on the exercise this week and have slept really well the last couple of nights. So hopefully I should be back on track to complete my September quests!🤔😀
My quest is to overcome this pesky ankle injury and take part in next weekend’s Brighton 10k race. 👍 If I don’t make it my quest will be to fix it by the end of September.
I wondered where you were...gosh, I hope it is strong enough for you to complete the run.Be sensible, if not...the Quest and the friends will be here.
Fingers 🤞 x
Hello Oldfloss. I had a feeling it might be you hosting us again. 😃I’m keeping my goals simple this month as I have a lot going on and they follow on from my August goals…
🏃♀️ My daughter is at the end of week 7 on her C25K journey, so I’ll continue to run that with her and see her graduate before she heads off to Uni.
🏃♀️ A new target will be to continue to run 3 x a week when I’m back to running solo. I’ll stick to 30 minutes runs to start with and take it from there.
🧘🏼♀️ I really need to climb back on the YWA bandwagon, although I’ve already missed the first couple of days. A fresh start for September.
I have just seen the weather forecast for the next week. Hooray sunshine ☀️!
She ran with my sister and her cousin in Cheshire, then ran solo along a track by a loch near my sister-in-law’s house in Scotland 🏴 and she loved every minute!
To be honest Oldfloss, I have reverted to a continuation of juju’s plan as that worked for me last time. The 4k is an intervals or hills run either with NRC or JogRunSprint.
Hi OF! Thanks for hosting us again. +Hi fellow Questers!
My Quest for September is:
* Run 3x pw — using the first part of the NRC HM plan (as far as 16k); I’ll probably get to 8-10k this month, depending on how fast I progress (one week of the plan will be more like 1.5-2 weeks in my time). The plan mixes up speed sessions, recovery and longer runs — and it’s this mix that I’m focusing on more than the distance target.
* Follow the Plankathon, c.4x pw (3-minute version).
This past week has got off to a good start: all on track. Have enjoyed my speed sessions (one intervals and one fartlek), but I’m having to get my pacing better gauged (I’m overdoing it). I’m getting there, but it’s a new skill. It’s been a holiday week, so I’ve also included some long walks and yoga (with many more plank-like manoeuvres!)
Hi there... this all sounds good to me.. keeping the goals simple and enjoying them! Knowing what you would like to get from the plans is also a big help
Plankathon..great... a few of us on board this time!
Hey Oldfloss …I would like to join your quest again this month pleeeeease…I’m doing a Garmin 10k programme so I want to stick to it & being one of your questers always helps me stick to my goals x
Aww, thank you Oldfloss …I remember my first 10k too…seems like a long time ago now…I like a plan but nothing too big for me at the moment as I settle into working life!!! (Gulp!!) I will def post along the way xxx
