Building up my distance- 13K done

I am increasing my time every few weeks on a Sunday and yesterday I decided to 1:10mins. I also have realised that my usual route bores me into running slow and feeling tired! So I went off the beaten path to wherever my heart took me. Away I went into busy streets, paths and roads and enjoyed my run very much. Had to tackle a few uphills which I have not done before and feeling ‘it’ now. At 8K mark around the corner after a uphill I saw a kiosk selling hot drinks, I saw this as a opportunity to get a small drink of water, it was not warm but these uphills were getting to me a bit. I went up to kiosk gesturing for a cup of water, not wanting to stop, I still had my headphones on. Now I realised that I can’t speak if I have my headphones on…. Weird and wonderful things you learn about yourself. So I took them off and asked for water! The state of panic 😱 on the kiosk lady’s face was explained by the fact that I was panting like I was about to collapse after doing the uphill for 40sec!! She had no running water but quickly gave me a bottle! I tired to tell her that I am ok and want to pay for it but she was having none of it ! She kept saying no no don’t worry as long as you are ok! The water was deliciously cold and refreshing-water 💦💦 , said thanks and went on my run thinking the image of me running all composed and athletic is not real, and in reality I can give people a proper fright … Weird and wonderful things you learn about yourself no 2

Away I went on my run and made it to 1:10 minutes when the NRC lady said you are at 12.8K … had to keep up on going to get to 13k at this point but there was a hill in front of me…. Weird and wonderful fact about yourself no3 I am more competitive than I ever gave myself credit for 😅 see the photos attached for stats! And thanks for reading about my longest 🏃‍♀️

Thanks for your kind word, they mean a lot to a new runner like me. I feel like I can go on but trying to be sensible to be able to enjoy each run 🏃‍♀️. I am not in a rush to get anywhere and don’t want an injury ….

Yes, we might often feel like we can go on but not doing so is often the more sensible choice !As you say, there is no rush .

The 10% rule is always worth bearing in mind 👍

Keep up the good work , and most of all, enjoy your runs !

Great work! That's a really good time for that distance 👍🏻😁 changing up routes and terrain is so necessary to prevent boredom.Lovely kiosk lady! Could have done with her on Saturday myself! 🤣

Keep up the great work!

You're doing it exactly how I did it a couple of years ago. Build up slowly. Took me from 10k to HM in a little over 4 months. If Edinburgh is boring you, try heading out along the coast to East Lothian, we've got some lovely coasts and forest paths to spice things up...

What a fabulous idea !! My fam are already complaining about the time I am away running and how they are restricted by it 😅 imagine me suggesting I am going to east Lothian for a run! How popular will that make me 😂Jokes aside I need to go out of where I am now to get the benefits of longer runs

Running in circles is not much fun tbh, might see you around sTrongFuse 😊

I can see from your route where you went and I agree, running round in circles is not much fun. I tend to opt for the Meadows or the Hermitage path and they are becoming the same old. Unfortunately, many routes in Edinburgh are hilly.
