Lots of life stuff happening this weekend so I decided it would be best if I could get my long run done over lunch today. I’m still not feeling fully well (all above the neck so ok for running) and my 4km and 5km runs were fairly hard work this week but I was determined I would do the 10km today so I decided not to look at my pace at all and go as slow as I physically could.
The first 5km was quite hard - legs and lungs were fine and I was mentally ok but I just wasn’t feeling that well. But the slowing down helped a lot as by the time I got to the halfway point I could tell I was much less tired than after my 5km run on Weds and the second half just flew by! I didn’t worry at all about how long it was taking me and in the end I was just slightly faster than I’d guessed I would be - I expected to do it in 74 mins based on recent pace and it was 73 on the button!
Very excited to have done it and mostly relieved our brush with Covid didn’t derail me from finishing when I’d planned to. Thanks so much to everyone here for your support over the past 8 weeks, you’ve been such a help! We’re off to North Yorkshire on holiday next week so I think I’ll do a few shorter runs for fun, looking forward to a rest now though!

I don’t worry about the splits above 5K. I just listen to my body and allow them to ‘ebb and flow’. If I feel like increasing pace for a bit, I do so - then I’ll ease up when I want.
What an amazing run, not only to hit the 10k in a great time but the fact you did whilst still not feeling 100%. What an achievement you must feel very proud of yourself - quite rightly too!
Great time for your first 10k, in fact my first 10k was 74mins, but a year later I am almost at the 60 min mark. Haven’t really tried to get faster; I think it’s just come as I run more regularly.
Congratulations on completing your first 10K in a very good time of 73 minutes, nice to get a sub 75 minutes 10K 😀🏃🏾👍

Wow! Congratulations, you did it 🥳🎊! And not feeling your best either - that shows real resolve 💪👏. Enjoy your holiday - it sounds like it is coming at just the right time for a well earned rest!
