My first ever 10k feeling good that I have achieved something when at the beginning of the year I couldn’t run for a bus!
I’m also much lighter and toned and ladies of a certain age will agree it’s hard to shift these days .
I also find the time I run really great for thinking and getting my head straight, love the early mornings so peaceful and beautiful whatever the weather .
Thanks C25k and every contributor who have encouraged and given helpful tips and advice to make me the runner I am today .
Well I’m going to bask in the glory and have a couple of days off!

Really pleased for you, congratulations. I’m at the 8km mark and have been for about 4 weeks now so need to motivate myself to get over the hump and do the final 2km!
Thanks! If you have done 8 you can do 10 I think it’s all in the mind, I had thoughts at stopping about 7k this morning and a friend saw me and cheered so I couldn’t give up .
Yes, I think I can get to the 10km, which is my aim. When I first did the c25k starting in October 2020, I graduated but then had a injury which took nearly three months of physiotherapy and no running to sort before starting the c25k again. So, I’m being a bit cautious about increasing my distances/speed and have a long period (2-3 weeks) of consolidation where I run easy for 40 minutes and have two 5 minutes warm up and warm down intervals at the beginning and end. But I feel now, at the end of the 40 minutes run, that I could go on so maybe next week, I’ll increase the time to 44 minutes and see how far I get. Thanks for the encouragement.
Definitely! 18 knit all sounds just so far, I thought my old joints would ache but it seems the more you are active the better you feel although I’m careful not to forget all the warm ups and a bit of yoga and walking in between run days. I actually don’t know how I fit work in😂
Congratulations on your first 10k! 🏆🍾🙌 That’s such an amazing achievement. Enjoy the elated feeling it deservedly brings, and the sense of ‘is/ was that really me?’ (not sure that one will ever fade!!😉)
Absolutely fantastic Wavy-chick28!! Can't wait until I'm posting the same achievement! I'm at the 8k mark now aiming for 10k. 8k is the aim for this weekend... So maybe a couple of weeks off 10k. Well done you... Have you now set a new goal or are you happy at 10k for a while? ☺️
Massive congratulations. I got to 9km but then it was too hot/had covid/insert other excuses here and now I can't manage 5km. Working my way back. Thanks for the post and the kick up the bum I needed. No time like the present ... after one more cup of tea!
Still don’t know how to use this thing replied to myself again 🤣😂My legs yesterday were fine, I had the achey hip back but after an Epsom salt bath and a good nights sleep feel absolutely fine! Just glad it’s in the bag now, I’m terrible when I set myself a challenge it’s all I can think of so now I’m going to just enjoy running for a while, how are you getting on ??
That's so easy to do, I reply to myself as well 😄. Great your legs are feeling ok. I guess the hip is just telling you how far you've gone and maybe after some consolidation 10k won't bother it in the future. It is a long distance now! After the first 9k I had a funny feeling in one of my calfs. Not sore but a slight pull feeling inside. I did the w9r1 4k run and it was still there so I stopped running for a week. One 14mile hike in the middle of that week and I felt it after that too 🙄. On Tuesday I did w9r1 again and all ok and hope to do w9r2 today! It is annoying as have root canal on Tuesday 😫. Life is getting in the way of my running 😂!
Sorry to hear that, but you do have to be careful so take your time, all that warming up and stretching is so necessary but time consuming with work and family life! Yuck root canal is not pleasant either, poor you 😫 I’m sure you will get there soon, why we put pressure on ourselves to get there I don’t know,I feel relieved I’ve done it and can just enjoy running my own race now until the next challenge🤔 also I’m so slim my wedding outfit may be too big if I don’t watch out !!
The bit I've been missing out is the strength training. I think I thought that hill walking would cover it but its maybe not regular enough to have an effect. Calf raises for me now! You've done so well with the 10k programme and that time you got...! 10 miles for you next!
Great effort. Well done. I was hoping to get to 10 this year but injury and hip problems have thwarted me but he ho off to see consultant on Tuesday 🤞he gives me good news. But many congratulations on achieving this distance. 🎉🎉👏👏👏🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Aww thanks Scruff55 I too have a dodgy hip a touch of osteopenia which dogged me during C25K so I always make sure to warm up and down and do all that extra strength training and it’s been much better, although it made a reappearance in the last K and after my run so I was straight in a bath of Epsom salts and today it’s been fine 🤞🏻I hope you get some good news and you make the 10k as soon as you get the ok
