Knee injury Halted my 2 weekly runs

Playing football on 3rd August , suffered a painful meniscus tear in my knee. MRI scan on September 11th. My question is regarding how should I ease my way back into running when better? Normally run 6k in about 33mins, twice a week. Should I start with 20min runs or say 3k runs, gradually building back up?

Sorry to read that but I think that’s a question for your consultant. It probably depends on the level of tear and an MRI scan will obviously tell more.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I agree with Irishprincess speak to your consultant this certainly isn’t something we can advise on. Best of luck on a speedy steady safe recovery 🤗

You do,as the others say, need to have the scan and see what your consultant says. We are not medical experts.

It may help , or not, to know that, after I had an MRI leg scan, (for suspected fractures, shin and thigh), my knee showed a slight meniscus tear.

My consultant told me that most people over 50 would have the same thing if scanned. It just happens with aging and wear and errr...tear!

Not sure how old you are?

So, your MRI scan will give your consultant more detail...and you will be advised how to move forward.

My scan for the original issue was clear, the fractures which had shown up on an X Ray were completely very old and had healed .

Since I had to wait 12 weeks for a scan...the original problem had gone. I did not run in that time at all. I was advised not to after my initial consultation, until the scan had been done. I did carry on with strength and stamina work, upper body and on my 'good' leg:)

So, I was told to carry on running as normal, but I did ease back gradually after time off.

You will get back but you will need expert advice.

Just curious, who diagnosed the tear?

Keep us posted please...it could be something else...but your MRI will give an accurate diagnosis.Good news is, that the runs do wait:)

You're getting way ahead of yourself. You've no idea of how your tear will take to heal nor what scan will produce, nor what the consultant will say.

As well as the consultant, I'd also be getting advice from a sports physio.
