A ‘Tasting Menu’ of a Run , OR an ‘Everythng but the Kitchen Sink’ kind of Run 😂😂🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️

👆👆Saw this elsewhere the other day 😉

Me , Literally every day 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

So after my impromptu 10K on Friday I knew my legs ( and left hip flexor 🥴) needed to take it easy for a couple days . So two rest days for me and today was going to something different , but what ?

I fancied giving Jeffing another go but also , in my plan to get some routine back knew I should get back to some intervals/ speed runs and maybe hills …… ( although maybe the hills could wait 😱😱😂)

Ended up doing them all 🤷🏼‍♀️😂😂, I’ve noticed my decision making skills have all but disappeared on me these days 🤦‍♀️ ( my age or just laziness , not sure 🤷🏼‍♀️)

So I chose NRC ‘ 3,2,1 Go ! ‘ Intervals Run as it was quite quick , just 17 mins and I’d do 1K of 45:30 Jeffing prior to it as a warm up.

My one and only foray into Jeffing was a less than successful run when coming back after my calf injury at the beginning of the year .

Didn’t go well as calf was still not right and I’d left a pace alert on my Garmin so the buzzer was having a field day and I lost the plot re walk ! No, Run ! 🤦‍♀️😂

Today a little better but practise required I think 🤔 I recall Jools2020 saying to ‘glide’ on the transition to walking but I suspect the walk should be brisk ?

I think I ‘dawdle’ 😄

So onto the speed intervals 3mins at 10k effort, 2mins at 5K effort, 1 min at mile pace and a 30 second ‘go for it’ best effort to finish .

Pleasantly surprised that although I’ve had a 3 week lull in activity and I am yet again disappointed in my ability to keep to a regular schedule that actually , there must be a residual level of improvement from whatever running I have managed to do 👌🤷🏼‍♀️

I did a similar intervals run some time ago but in reverse ( today started with 10K pace, last time started with mile pace) and I seem to have improved ‘by stealth’ 😂😂

Today 10k pace 3mins @6:40 ( previous 6:54)

5K pace 2mins@ 5:51 ( previous 6:16)

Mile 5:24( previous 4:56)

Best 30 secs @ 4:34 ( previous n/a )

So only the mile pace was slower , but as I recall as it was first up the last time I think I shot off like I was in the Olympic 100 m sprint 🥵🥵🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️😂😂 and ended up having to pause the run to recover 🤦‍♀️😂

After that I did another 1 K Jeffing ( not much better , I kept missing my prompts as I was distracted by the early morning goings on around me ) .

This took me to the hill that I’ve previously done hill sprints on and I was up for doing maybe 3 or 4 then heading home .

Just as I approached a council lorry passed me and parked right on my hill ☹️

Not inclined to have an audience I ‘chickened out’ , however as I got nearer it turned out there was only one chap and he was raising manholes round the side .

So I compromised and did two hill sprints between lampposts 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️👌

Quite pleased with my efforts today , it was fun and gave my legs just enough work to do 🙂

Hoping it’s the start of me getting reenergised 🙂

Think a straight 3 K on Wednesday and I’m still ‘humming and hawing’ about doing my first ‘real’ Parkrun on Saturday 🤔😀

Aaah…I love Terry Pratchett 💕

I too have lost any decision making skills that I may have had in the past 🙄

It certainly did sound like you chucked the kitchen sink in there as well!

I think the term is “to walk with purpose”…ie brisk…defo not dawdle 🤣

I’m not sure that my transitioning isn’t aggravating my left thigh 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’re not the only one who doesn’t like an audience…I always try and park in a corner so I can stretch out of sight! 🙄

Anyway, sounds like you had fun and are suitably energised…defo go for your Park Run…Wales doesn’t start until the 21st ☹️

😂😂 Need to address the dawdle then 👌 I can see how the knee issue would come into play too 😕

Thankfully my knees seem ok for their age 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 it’s my calves I need to watch out for . I’ve lost a bit of my hard gained glute and quad strength too .

One mor3 thing to get back to !

I read last night that , sadly, my most local Scottish Parkrun hasn’t been able to get going for Saturday and is delayed to 21st too.

There is another one but as I’m staying over at daughters on Friday it’s too far to get to .

Think as it’s my first I’d like to do it at what will be my local, also it’s a new course that’s been a result of building a new road and swing bridge at the canal and relocating the golf course …. Should be nice .

The old one was two circuits of the athletics/rugby fields

Ooh sounds good!My local (which I’m only assuming will open on 21st) is along down the River Walk, and then around the Boating Lake and back up again. Can’t wait!

I must re-read those Pterry books I have.

Sadly, his later books (as his health failed) were not quite as refined as he'd probably have liked.

Some of his best stuff was in the footnotes.

Didn’t quite get into his books , but I know I’m missing some great wit and observation 🤷🏼‍♀️👌

Don't start at the beginning. His early Discworld books are mainly mickey takes of other authors in the fantasy genre.

"Mort" is the one that's usually recommended as a starting point. By this point he'd properly found his own voice.

Thanks 👌 Funnily enough ‘the Thief of Time’ crossed my path the other day and I quite liked the look of the ‘blurb’ .It’s well into the Discworld Series tho’ , are they ‘standalone’ ?

There are recurring characters and themes, but in general the books stand on their own. ("Colour of Magic" and "Light Fantastic" are a pair, with the first ending on a cliffhanger.)

You can read any of them as stand alone as he tends to put in relevant background as he goes along. Thief of time is more of a stand alone to be honest. You might like the ones with the witches in…starting with “the weird sisters”

You've had great fun haven't you and although I am not a Pratchett fan, I love that quotation So true! I think you had a really interesting and fun time trying all the different , aspects of your runs out... I always enjoyed, still do, running experimentally ( The word experiment) gives me a let out when it all goes pear shaped!

😀Well done you!

I’m not a Pratchett fan either, fantasy just not my genre 🤷🏼‍♀️ But his observations and quotes hit the spot . This one in particular sums things up for me lately 😂😂Yes I did have fun, last time I did intervals I had a good laugh too

It reminded me how good it is not to get in a rut with my running, which I am inclined to do .

It’s not all about distance and pace , a little ‘experimenting’ ( will be adopting this strategy thank you !) shakes things up and keeps it from getting too serious 😁 and I am far from a serious runner 😂😂

I do think I was looking at my watch a fair bit whenever I passed people on my walking ‘bits’ of the Jeffing , so I think I could ‘pull off’ the ‘I’m doing some strategical experimenting here’ look 😉😉

The speed is hilarious because I do think I’m in a race 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ No starting pistol required 😂

Wonderful having the freedom to do what we like on our runs! This run had everything and it sounds like you really enjoyed it 😊Yes, walk with purpose for the Jeffing. It’s definitely something that needs practice to refine. I see Jeffing as ‘kind of’ interval work, so I don’t bother about doing any more, just the once a week Jeffing run.

For me it's remembering’ that I can do different things and to make sure I shake it up a bit. Otherwise I can get a bit ‘humdrum’ .

Another reason it’s good to keep in touch with the forum I think ! Finding out things that other people are giving a go is really helpful.

Doubt I’d still be at it, but for this forum 🙂

Will work on the ‘dawdle’ , I realise the Jeffing requires a bit of thought and attention 👌🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️
