1st Parkrun Advice

I registered for Parkrun after I graduated C25K and am planning to attend my first one tomorrow. I've only been running once (very occasionally twice) a week for the last few months (I usually horse ride at the weekend and have trouble fitting in more runs) and usually cover around 3.5k in 30mins. Any advice for Parkrun - it's a big jump in distance and I run on roads, not parks so looking for tips and encouragement from you lovely lot please!

Well done giving Park Run a try. Just go with the aim of enjoying yourself, if you need to slow down or walk, that’s fine. Happy running 🤗

If you feel the need to stop and walk, do. Some folks who do parkrun are quite fast and it's easy to get swept up in the enthusiasm of the group.

See my comment to OldBadKnees post on the same topic 2old4. You’ll be fine!

I think if you run slow, slower than you’re used to for your 3.5ks, you’ll get round easy enough. If it’s anywhere on grass and it’s been wet, watch your footing if you’re more used to tarmac and have road shoes.

As others say, if you have to walk, walk a bit. You won’t be alone. I saw many runners taking a break. One guy speed walked the entire route from what I could tell.

Have fun. 🙂

Thanks everyone! Sadly I'm having to postpone my parkrun debut as I have been offered a dentist appt for an extraction I've been waiting for for a month. I would rather be running 😨
