My knee has gone 'ping' (not the first time) I can hardly put any weight on it so I won't be running for a couple of weeks. I'm already feeling really down - any coping tips to get me through?

Oh no! Do you know what’s caused it? You’ve said it’s happened before so hopefully you’ll know about recovery time, etc. Have you seen a physio?

A few weeks away from running will do no harm whatsoever, you won’t lose much fitness and your body will appreciate the rest. Can you do strengthening exercises for the other parts of your body without putting pressure on your knee? For example, your arms, shoulders, back, core, obliques, glutes… even if you can only manage your arms and shoulders it’s all good for the running movement.

There are exercises out there that you can do from a sitting position, have a search and see what you can find.

You’ll always be a runner so just consider it a little holiday for your running legs 🙂

Thanks for the reply and exercise ideas. Last time it happened I was very unfit and overweight. Doctor just prescribed antifluid tablets and pain killers. I have since lost 2.5 stone and running for the last year, also doing knee exercises to strengthen my knees I thought I'd overcome it. So I just feel really disappointed at this setback

That’s the thing with this running, there we are running along with not a care and the next we’re on the IC (injury couch) trying to work out what happened.

Running is a high impact sport so most of us get injured at some stage. It’s always disappointing when we can’t run but the vast majority of injured runners do return. I do sympathise. I’ve been out for months in the past and all I can say is that the time does pass and the roads/trails will always wait 🙂

Could you perhaps see a physio to try and find out the reason for the injury? Once you have a proper diagnosis the physio will give you some specific exercises and get you on your road to recovery.

The weight loss and exercises will have helped enormously - well done on the weight loss by the way! So keep doing what you can.

Just remember that injuries are temporary but running lasts forever 🙂

Take care and keep us updated on how you’re getting on.

Thank you Irishprincess. I'll check out a physio. Meanwhile I'll look forward to returning to running. 🏃‍♀️
