Running whilst pregnant in this heatwave

It's been a long time folks. I hope everyone are coping well in this heatwave sweeping over most of England. Since I last posted a year ago, I am happy to report that I am now 6 months pregnant and am still running!

Due to extra pregnancy weight and heat exhaustion over the weekend, I have noticed for the first time that I got really bad swollen feet and legs. Despite drinking almost constantly and lying flat, the swelling only got worse. This morning I took the drastic action of going for a 1.5k run (all I can manage at the moment) in the less deadly temperature of 19C.

My legs felt really heavy and my pace was especially slow but this has actually alleviated swelling in my feet, ankles and calves pretty much straight away! This just proves running rules. Even in pregnancy! Happy running everyone.

Oh my, do be careful. Your and baby’s health are more important than a run. 🤗

Absolutely! I'm only running because it still feels comfortable. To every pregnant runner out there, only run if you are comfortable and beware of overheating x

Having said that, my neighbour ran a half marathon in December then gave birth the next day 😂 not to be recommended. Happy running 🤗

Yikes Achy, I feel for you! My daughter is expecting her 2nd little boy in September and she’s feeling the heat. She doesn’t run, but she’s always chasing her toddler, nearly 2, so that counts! They’ve decamped to Cornwall for a few days so she can sit in the sea! 🌊

Take it easy won’t you? 🥰

Yikes! Chasing a terrible two year old whilst pregnant in this heat can’t be fun! I hope it’s nice and cooling in Cornwall for them. I’m having to make do with my own at home Cornwall experience of dipping my feet in a bucket of water 😅

As long as you're comfortable and safe, keeping active is great. You may be aware already but the Nike Run Club app has guided runs for pregnancy and they go across all trimesters. All the best!

Oh I didn’t know the Nike Run club also has advice for running during pregnancy. I’ve just been following the NHS and Tommy’s guidance on it. So I’ll be sure to check it out.
