Tourist running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ in the Yorkshire Moors

โ€ข26 Replies

Up early for a morning run before breakfast. Weโ€™re holidaying in North Yorkshire, just at the start of the Yorkshire Moors. The weather has been kinder than the forecast and Dabby-dot and I have a beautiful place to run her C25K. Itโ€™s rather hillier than sheโ€™s used to, but sheโ€™s coping brilliantly although she had a few stern words for the lovely Laura on the app as she reached the top of her final hill at the end of the last run section. Iโ€™m so proud of her. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It is doing me good to rerun it alongside my daughter. As I give her advice and encouragement, I find I am thinking about my technique and how I tackle hills etc.

The photos are from our run. We saw deer, sheep, bulls, horses, beautiful views and a hilarious parade of chickens scuttling down the hill as we neared our holiday cottage.

Well done you and Dabby Dot. My son is still asleep after the football last night. Luckily we ran yesterday, he rightly realised today should be a rest day ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ˜‰ sleepy sons are the order of the day today I think. My teenage son was still tucked up when we headed out. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Looks like you may be somewhere near my home Delly-dot.. the Cinder Track (old railway line) from Scarborough to Whitby is a great place to run mid-week (lots of cyclists at weekends so not quite so good then)..๐Ÿ˜Š

I was thinking of the cinder track! Went on it near Whitby when I stayed at my friends holiday cottage there! Wasn't running then and want to run it now!!!

Weโ€™re a few miles east of Thirsk. We lived in North Yorkshire years ago (pre children) so itโ€™s lovely to share some of our favourite places with them and catch up with old friends while we are here. Iโ€™m not sure how close we are to The Cinder Track but think itโ€™ll be further east from where we are. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ah yes, you are on the opposite side of the moors.. the cinder track is more or less parallel to the Cleveland Way, so itโ€™s possible to do some lovely loops going one way along the cliffs and returning along the track.. (mostly walking for me!) - maybe your next holiday.. ๐Ÿ˜ŠYou have more than enough fabulous runs to explore around Thirsk.. such a big and beautiful county... enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜Š

in reply to PeggySusi

The Cleveland Way runs parallel to the track that we ran this morning, but itโ€™s a little bit further up the hill. We will try it later in the week ๐Ÿ˜Š

I reckon you must be not far off a hundred miles via the Cleveland Way from the coastal section of it nearest to me.. I don't know if it's all as challenging, but I'd love to find out.. a bit at a time.. maybe we will devote a whole walking holiday to it sometime.. I would be interested to read if you post about it later in the week.

Iโ€™d forgotten just how lovely North Yorkshire is. Itโ€™s been 20 years since we moved awayโ€ฆโ€ฆ โ˜บ๏ธ

Not far from where we were last week, itโ€™s good to read bout doing this with your daughter

in reply to SueAppleRun

We had the best of todayโ€™s weather this morning. It has been torrential rain this afternoon. We battened down the hatches and played card and board games indoors!

My other half (Mr grumpy ๐Ÿ˜) is from Helmsley, it's a beautiful part of the world. Enjoy your holiday, you lucky things!

in reply to grumpyoldgirl

Oh we were in Helmsley this morning and had our picnic in the rain! Itโ€™s so beautiful there and we would have liked to have wandered for longer, but we had to give in and head back to the dry, for board games and cards at our holiday cottage. Helmsley is only a few miles away so weโ€™ll get back. We are loving revisiting old haunts and sharing them with our children, having moved away from here 20 years ago.

Well done the dots! How lovely to be able to show your children some of your favourite places. We did that with my nephews when they were little and theyโ€™re now doing the same with their own children! Youโ€™ve started a trend! Enjoy your holiday.

Looks like a nice scenery to run in! And while having fun too, the best!
