I’ve learned a lot about running this past 16 months but the main thing that has stood out during the past 6 months is the difference a pair of shoes can make.
I’ve been running just over 3 years now and for most of that I’ve run in Brooks Ghosts. At Christmas I bought some really snazzy Christmas Revel 4s (you may have seen the post). Not only did I love the Christmassy look of them but they were so light compared to the Ghosts they were a bit of a revelation. So I bought some standard Revel 4s for non-Christmas, short distance training runs.
This year I’ve put loads of miles in and my speed has picked up as I’ve followed Katnap around our local, locked down roads. Last week I thought, I want to spice it up! I want the light uppers of Revels with some oomph in the soles. Katnap wears Brooks Hyperion Tempos, he’s gone faster in these. So I went to the cupboard gave them a once over and thought…hmmm, they’ll do. So I did some shopping…
Now I’m not a big fan of pink but these are the dogs doodahs of pink, and they do look really good on. Yesterday they went for their first spin in what I’m hoping is my penultimate (not) parkrun. They helped me take 15 seconds off a 5k PB I thought I’d never better. I like my new shoes 😁😍

I think once you’ve been running for a while and you know you’re in it for the long term it’s definitely worth experimenting on different shoes for different occasions WS. I’ve heard mixing it up also helps prevent injuries.
Ooh I love a new shoe pic! 💕 That's a pink that means business, 15 seconds you say🤔 interesting! I tried on some lovely sauconys the other day that felt like they would really help to push off for each step. I can't justify buying them just yet, but I can hear them calling to me ...
Brilliant effort on your new PB and I love your new shoes, I’m on my 4th pair of brooks ghosts I just love them, but you’ve got me thinking 💭 maybe I need to try other brooks too. I do go through them rather quickly as cover too many miles in a year so it won’t be long before decision time comes round again. Happy running 🤗
Thanks Granny. Yes, I’m on my 4th pair of Ghosts too. I think we just get in our comfort zone with them as we know where we are with them. If it hadn’t been for those Christmas shoes I wouldn’t have tried a different pair doe a long time. I just use the Ghosts for 10k+ now which is extending their life a bit more and helping my ankles (they get a bit suffocated in the Ghosts). I’d give it a go if I were you, particularly with the Revels as they are relatively ‘cheap’. 👍
If someone could guarantee I shaved 15 seconds off anything, I’d run in wellies TC! But I think your new shoes are fabulous and I hope you get many more PBs in them!
