New tech and motivation

Long post alert!

It’s been a funny old week this week. I should of been on holiday but had to call it short as hubby got really poorly whilst we were away. So back we came. Nothing beats home when your unwell. But the plus was I got to play with my new toy earlier than expected. 😊

As a reward for running my first half marathon hubby treated me to the new Garmin Forerunner 55. I do love tech of all kinds but this is lovely. It replaced the Forerunner 235 which I’d had for a couple of years and I loved that too but the new one gives me so much more info. Amongst other things my fitness age is 18 months less than my actual age. As a woman of a certain age that’s a definite plus! 😉 plus it says I can reduce it even more (5.5 years) if I increase my vigorous activity and lose that last pesky stone!! So that’s me motivated to eat more healthily and get back to increasing my miles. 😊.

Another plus was it has training plans for jeffing (run/walk). I’m a converted jeffer so I thought I would use that to increase my 5K time for the return of park run. Two runs in and it’s ok although I haven’t quite mastered which buttons to press to start laps so I can track my cadence! But next week is another week. Looking forward to the rain and figuring out the buttons. And getting younger! 😂🏃🏻‍♀️

My vivoactive3 won't let me get any younger. I fluctuated around my real age during Autumn, whilst I was recovering from my ankle injury at graduation, then it started going down gradually when I became more active again.

I find the watches reward faster, shorter runs rather than longer gentler runs, and they don't count any activity shorter than 10 minutes. It's best to just treat the numbers as a bit of fun.

Thank you for that. Yes it is more for amusement than anything but it does make me smile. But I think the most important thing for me is knowing I’m fitter than the average woman of my age! And that makes me grin daily. 😂

Lovely new bit of tech, sounds like you’re already having fun with it and more to come. Good luck with the weight and age loss 🤣 happy running 🤗

Thanks I’m not sure how quickly I can get it to change but it’s certainly giving me the motivation. Since the start of the unlocking I’ve sort of lost it. But it’s back now. 😊

Shame about the holiday but nice, fancy gadgety-watch! Do you have “a change weather button”, by any chance? 😉 (wouldn’t that be something! 😃💡)

KnittingrunnerGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

Unfortunately not! I’d have it set to cool with a bit of rain for most runs. 😉

Ohh fancy!!! The new Garmin 55 looks amazing and fresh!! Like nowster said, data is not always accurate, it helps but you.know your health best!!!

Best of luck with the last stone, trying to do the same and its so hard to shift. Goingto try to increase duration and distance.

😀

Best of that. I’m pulling back on distance for a bit to give my knee a chance to recover snd concentrating on increasing my speed. 😊 good luck with the weight loss. It isn’t easy.

Just Googled that, you get a lot of stuff for your dosh don't you? Lovely watch...

You certainly do and it’s smaller than my old one so more comfortable to wear. Plus I love the colour. 😊

I got a 245 last year, it does all yours does, but cost a bit more. I love it.

Ooh lovely. 😊

Does it pair with a running dynamics pod, or chest strap? And did you get one? Lots and lots more stats to pore over!

Knittingrunner profile image
KnittingrunnerGraduate10 in reply toCurlygurly2

Not sure to be honest. I think it works with a chest strap but that’s a bit much even for me Mrs Tech as my hubby calls me. 🥴

I love my RD pod, you clip it on the back of your shorts and get all sorts of very pretty colored graphs!

Ooh. Now that’s interesting! Think I might have to Google it! 😉. Thank you.

Just looked it up. It looks really interesting but isn’t compatible with the Forerunner 55. 😔. So I will have to stick with that for now.

To be honest I don’t know what I’d do with all the info anyway 😂. I get overwhelmed with all the stats at times any way. 😂

Yes, I only look at the ones that interest me, cadence and stride length really... vertical oscillation? What's that when it's at home and what use is it? Still there are lots of pretty colours!

Now pretty colours are always good. 😊

Congrats on the new tech, looks lovely! I've got a Gamrin VivoActive 4S myself, bought it as a smartwatch, but don't use the smartwatch functions anymore as they drain the battery too fast. So now I just wear it as a regular watch 24/7 (with funny stats for sleep and stress and such) and I use it for my running. I don't do anything with the stats, but it's fun to have, right?

Too bad about your husband, hope he's feeling better in the meanwhile?

Yep! Stats are fun more than anything. But anything to keep me motivated is good. Thank you for asking about hubby. He’s almost back to normal now. But was really very poorly for quite a few days. Not like him at all. Scared us both really. 🥴

I am hopeless with tech! Sounds a great gadget and it is interesting to see statistics.
