I’ve had a few stays on the IC this year. Nine days ago I felt a twinge in my left ankle during a 6km run. I completed it but later in the day it was swelling and aching.
I realised it was an attack of gout which surprised me because 1) I take a daily anti-gout pill 2) I haven’t had an attack for 5 years, and 3) I couldn’t think of any food or drink that might have provoked it.
Anyway, there was little to do but hobble around and wait for it to go away. A blast with a TENS machine seemed to help.
This morning I felt well enough to run a gentle 4km. The ankle behaved impeccably but my leg muscles were a little surprised.
Rotten thing gout, often because many people think it’s an illness of slothful overindulgers. Chance would be a fine thing!! 🍷🍷

Gosh, I didn’t know you could get gout in your ankle 😫 But it’s surprising how many “healthy” everyday foods can trigger an attack. I know this because my husband suffered from it and I was really amazed about some of the possible culprits!
Fingers crossed this attack is over and you can run pain-free again 🤞
Maybe you need an increase in meds Heavyfoot. It shouldn't really flare up and upset your running. Maybe ask your GP for a urate blood test. Glad to hear it's settled down for now.😊
