An Early Morning 14K Run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

So, I was intending to do a long run yesterday (Saturday) made sure on Friday I was fully hydrated, tech all charged up kit out and ready, weather forecast looking good .

Went to bed Friday night and could not sleep ! Waking up every hour or hour and half throughout the night .

I remember being awake at 4am thinking no way can I go and do a long run , then at 5am I thought no way can I run at all , I felt washed out , so made a cup of tea and went back to try and sleep !

I must have fell asleep for a few hours then and I remember when I woke up I checked my phone , looked on Strava and saw my running friend Jools2020 had been and done an 8K run !

Well done Jools πŸ˜πŸ‘

Problem was , I was now beating myself up for not running 🀣

That's it it thought , tomorrow it is !!!

Whatever happens, I will run tomorrow and go long 😁

At least the tech was charged 😁

Luckily I slept better , waking up around 4:30, at 5 I got up to make the much needed mug of tea .

Faffed about for a while , kit on and contacts in and energy drink made,

I only carry drinks if going over 10K

I wore my hydration vest but I used 2 0.25ml bottles that I have from a running belt , I did try the bladder in he back but could not get on with it so that was returned to Amazon !

Dynamics done , and out for my warm up at 05:55 wearing the thinest shorts and thinnest t shirt and this was perfect .

I decided to use the NRC 90 Minute Run as I did on my 13K Run and just add on to it at the end .

I set off running at a nice easy long run pace , at around 2K I thought my phone had gone quiet, I hadn't heard coach for a while , so took it out of the pocket in the vest as I was running , and as soon as I took it out typically, coach came back πŸ€ͺ

Went to put my phone back in the pocket but missed ! it slipped in behind the pocket , next thing it fell to the floor cracking the back cover on the kerb 😠

Ahh well, at least it still works and is in one piece and the front is ok !

I'm managing to control my pace pretty well on this run , infact the 3rd 4th and 5th K were all the same .

It picks up slightly over 6, 7, 8 and 9K

At 10K I pull it back a little .

I have a drink at 10K while still running , that's tricky 🀣

Then continue and let the pace increase slightly with each passing kilometre and manage to finish strong at 14K with the quickest split of the run at 07:37

I'm very happy with the splits again in this run and now think I know my optimum start pace for this sort of distance.

And a nice negative trend through the run.

Back home and stretches done !

Cat fed (Again !) And porridge done !

Now for a nice relaxing bath 😁

Happy Running ! πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Well done, and an inspiring read. I've just started a new Garmin Coach plan for my HM in October, the second run is tomorrow - 13 KM!! I'm feeling nervous, I used to do these distances easily, but most of the plans I've done over the last months have had mostly shorter runs, 6 - 9 KM max. I'm hanging on to the thought that running is in your head....

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

Thanks !I'm certainly not going to say they are "Easy" but I do agree there is a lot of mental strength needed as well .

I'm sure you will be ok as you are following the plan .

Good luck πŸ‘

Curlygurly2Graduate10 in reply to Instructor57

I chose this plan as I wanted to do some longer runs, now I'm complaining already! Actually, I'm looking forward to it, got my route planned...

Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

I think the nerves are not a bad thing , I'm sure you'll enjoy it when your out there πŸ˜πŸ‘

Yes, I know I will, what's the worst that can happen? I have to walk a bit...Apart from falling in the river of course!!

I don't carry drinks for any run under 90 minutes either.

I wore the hydration bladder in the backpack yesterday. I'd put two pints in it (I filled it using a pint glass). However I only drank about a pint on the run in the middle of the day.

It made an odd swishing sound with every step. I'll have to fiddle with the straps again, as the weight of it wasn't quite in the right position. The trick to stop the gurgling sound from the bladder seems to be to exclude as much air as possible.

I have cracked the "gooey jelly baby problem". I put them in a zipped plastic sandwich bag, along with some tissues, in the pouch right at the back of the backpack. I sweated profusely and the waistcoat (US: vest) was very damp when I took it off, but the tissues and jelly babies were dry.

Well done on your 14km run this (early) morning. I was hoping to be out about 6.30am yesterday but that didn't happen.

You could put a protective case on the phone to cover the cracked back, perhaps?

Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to nowster

Thanks , yes I had a bladder and only tried it at home and couldn't stand the sloshing about and I couldn't get on with the valve either !But yes , getting the air out would solve the sloshing !

Ahh well, my 2 little bottles are fine ! πŸ‘

So annoyed with the phone , up till now I have always kept it in my hand ! With no problems ! As soon as I have somewhere to put it now I go and miss πŸ€ͺ

I meant to buy jelly babies yesterday but forgot !

It was sherbet lemons for me 😁

Wow, Ian, what a FANTASTIC run! Brilliant.

I feel the same way when I’ve seen you’ve been out for a successful run! (Although I try and pretend to myself that it doesn’t matter at all) πŸ˜‚

Your splits are great, ebbing and flowing with a negative trend and you finished strong, too!

What a nuisance about your phone. At least it still works until you can get it fixed.

I hope you enjoyed your porridge, the Breakfast of Champions, which is no less than you deserve after this epic run! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Jools2020

Thanks Jools !Haha, I was so annoyed with myself yesterday for not running 🀣

Yes, I was very pleased with the splits again ! πŸ‘

The phone is so annoying !

Out of every run I have done so far it has been in my hand and never dropped it !

As soon as I try and put it "Somewhere safe" I miss !!! 😠

Nice long running Ian. Of course you will get to 10 miles when you are ready. Shame about the phone. I've done exactly the same thing several times. Thankfully only the screen protector cracked.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Birdlady64

Thanks Diane ! Yes, I'm not putting pressure on myself for 10 miles and I'm sticking to no more than 10% (or less) increases

The phone is sooooo annoying 😠

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to PollyGray

Thanks PollyGray Just stick with it and you will get there πŸ‘

Yes, NRC = Nike Run Cub , and it is a free app full of loads of guided runs for either set distances or times , a lot on here use it , check it out πŸ˜πŸ‘

Oh that’s lovely, what a good run you had, I’m a little envious because getting up not long after 4 on both days this weekend and fielding kitten and dog has left me feeling like a long sleep rather than a long run

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Yes it was a good run , but tired now 😁Oh I have the same problems with cat and chickens 😁

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Dogs going home soon cat will sleep and i might sleep too lol but it’s been great having the dog although the weekend started with dog following cat everywhere and ended up cat pouncing and dog running to hide

Well done Ian, that’s a great run - and has more than made up for not doing it yesterday! I agree, running and slurping water at the same time is tricky, I had the same issue earlier. A great pace and a fab run all round, hurrah! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well done on your long run, looking at your times, quite similar to mine this morning, did a longer one too, 11km, havent run anything over 10k since back in jan, mind you, i slowed up even more at the end, unlike you picking up the pace at the end. Your not far of the magic 10 miles now, enjoy the rest of your sunday, we both might be feeling a bit stiff later!!! πŸ₯΅πŸ€£
