I will get to the running bit, but I felt compelled to capture a picture of the best flat white I have ever tasted, which was followed by a superbly flavoured Moroccan vegetarian soup, yet another flat white and finally incredible lemon cannolis. The Italian lady who owns this tiny cafe is amazing …..how we have missed Scilly!!
Back to running. After 6 weeks of frustration with this stubborn calf issue, I seem to be making progress. All of the runs around here are hilly, so I have had to keep my pace down to a minute/k below average and my calf appears to like it. I am being really good about stretches and exercises too, and non run days are filled with long walks. So 🤞…. I have found a way out of this frustrating series of set backs. Our normal holiday routine is a natural rehab programme. Given that I am trying to build up to a September HM, keeping the pace right down really doesn’t matter; it is just about finishing the run. 🤞🤞🤞

Lovely to have great flavoursome food🥰. Great to hear your new running pace is paying off, good luck on working up to 1/2 marathon distance. Happy running 🤗
Looks like utter bliss - both the coffee and the view. 😌 What a wonderful place to holiday, run and walk. It all seems to be a perfect combination for helping your progress continue. Happy running 😊
My family have a special place like that in Crete, well off the beaten track and only accessible by boat. 🇬🇷 I’m longing to go back, hopefully it won’t be too long…..
Only missing piece of the jig saw is Wally the Walrus. He was around the islands for the first couple of days of our stay, but he has done a lot of damage to boats, trying to haul himself out of the water for a rest. The harbour master has towed him out to sea (presumably on a boat he was occupying; you can't make a ton and a half go anywhere it doesn't want to go!). I think that he will be back though. He went over to France for a short visit a little while ago but soon came back to Scilly. Clearly very intelligent! A bit like trying to re locate a homing pigeon.
I’m so pleased to hear that your running is going well Beachcomber66. Slow running doesn’t do any harm . That does look a perfect flat white with a heart on top.
It is just what we need. The train journey down here, via London, was a bit overwhelming in terms of people numbers, but now we are here we can find lots of space and breathtaking views. We walked over 10 miles today; good cross training!!
Thanks IP. She does a lot of veggie stuff too; the flavouring is amazing and that is coming from a confirmed carnivore!
I think the long walks we are doing are probably helping my calf;🤞 it has been as good as gold since we landed here. I have done a 5k and a 6k. Next will be 7, then maybe 6, 7, 8. I know that breaks the 10% rule, but I need to take some risks if I am going to be ready for the big day.
Sounds very restorative. We’re in Northumberland this week and doing lots of walking (Mr S has finally booked a physio appointment for his painful knee as a result of me marching him across sand 🤣). I’ll get back to running when we’re home again!
We seem to have managed 50 miles (including 2 runs for me) in the last 6 days. Must be doing us some good! Tresco today I think with lunch at The Ruin Cafe. Tough love for Mr S !!
Perfect! Alnwick Castle and garden for us yesterday (eye wateringly expensive) in the sunshine but now rain and high winds. Good old British weather eh? Going home though!
Yes, finishing the run is definitely a priority for me, wins over pace any day. Tolerating frustration shows real maturity, so they say!! Well done, beautiful view and I'm going to Google Moroccan soup as you are the 2nd person to mention it recently.
You are doing brilliantly Mormor1. I found that achieving these milestones got easier; 0 to 5k was the hard bit, the rest just followed on from following the right formula. Injuries have been the issue over the last year; my latest of many theories is that I have been running too quickly too often, so Operation Snail has been invoked. Hope you find some good soup.🙂
I've been deliberating over the past few years about going to Scillys and your photo and comments have sealed the deal for me! To know that there are possibilities to run is also encouraging.Best of luck with the calf and your training for the 'big run' and enjoy that beautiful part of the world you have found. Best wishes ☺️.
Thank you Raisemeup. We have just retuned from a day out on Tresco; a 9 mile walk, lunch at the Ruin Cafe and lovely weather. I was going to go for a run tonight, but will probably go first thing tomorrow! 😴
