I think it is fair to say that my running has been in a bit of a dip over the last few weeks, for reasons which are not really running related. Possibly friction caused by my bottom lip dragging along the ground didn't help! So, this morning, I decided to reclaim Monday AM as my long run spot. A 10k: 2k road and 8k trail with a modest elevation increase of 75m. I also set a target average pace of 6.40/k. It was warm enough for a shirt only run, which made me feel better from the off. The trail is still a bit muddy, but short of black treacle consistency. At 8k, to my surprise, I thought that I might just be in with a chance of a 10k PB so I saved a bit of oomph for the last 1k and made it in 1:05:20 with a pace of 6:32/km. It was only 56 seconds better than my previous PB, but that was in a road race with a lower elevation increase ...so I am quite ridiculously pleased with myself. I topped it off with my flat white and triple chocolate brownie; another routine which has slipped recently....and ended up feeling really chilled. I was starting to wonder whether I had "peaked" in terms of times...well apparently not! Running is definitely not all about PBs....but the occasional one, when you need a bit of a boost, is very welcome. Oh, the photo?....nothing to do with my post really. Just a phonecam shot I took of Middlesbrough Dock at sunset...just another example of a nice surprise I thought that I would share. ☕️🍩
Good things happen when you least expect it! - Bridge to 10K
Good things happen when you least expect it!
Hmm - well a minute shaved off your previous PB is not too shabby in my book! Excellent job. And isn't it nice to have a chocolate treat and know you're still in line to lose a little weight after burning 800 calories or so? 😇
A beautiful photo well worth sharing Beachcomber66. Look at you getting another PB too. Best of all is that you enjoyed a lovely run followed by your special treat. The people in the cafe must have wondered where you were. 🍮🍫
Aww brilliant news BC, that’s fabulous! I’d be totally chuffed with that achievement, so your post run treat was well deserved. 👊🏃💪
What a magical photo. Thanks for sharing that beauty. 😍😍😍
Beautiful picture - fantastic run, magnifique! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Back on form for sure. Combo of Spring in the air and chocolate brownie on the plate - can’t be bad! 🎉🎉 Glad your dip seems to be a thing of the past, even if I do once again see your form receding into the distant mists. 🤣🤣 Wouldn’t want to lose my beacon....
Lovely photo. What a fantastic return to form with your running, you deserve to celebrate with triple chocolate- yum. I forgot to do that after long run yesterday and ended up making toast at 1am😂😂 that was a fantastic time for your 10k. Happy running 🤗
Amazing photo and congratulations on your 10K PB. Very well done. You have every right to feel proud and chuffed.

Cheers Damien. I have a dream of getting below 60 minutes...but I may have left it over 30 years too late 😊
Nonsense. You can do it. My first 10K took me 1 hour and 15 mins. I trained for 5K, my aim was a sub 30 minute parkrun and I got consistently down to sub 30 minute 5K finish times. This greatly helped with 10K. My 10K PB is now 57:45. You can do it by doing 5K interval training.
Damien
Will give that a go. I got 5k down to 28.17 last year courtesy of Park Run. I then got diverted onto hill runs for a while. I have now (this week) gone down to a short quicker run, a hill run and then 10k plus. I am sure the short quicker run helped the 10k time. So we will see I guess. Every week there seems to be a reason for not getting to Park Run...I was getting a PB every time I ran....need a chat with the coach!!😂
A pb by 56 seconds is brilliant and I hope you really enjoyed your treat at the end🥳🥳🥳
Only 56 seconds?! I think all of us know how significant 5.6 seconds per km can be! Well done 😊
That's brilliant! It's funny how running is so changeable. I have had a bit of a dip recently but yesterday was fab. Just as well I stuck with it! And I like your post run routine. I might have to emulate you.
Amazing pic! And what a great run, well done on your new pb, sounds like everything just came together. ☺
Bad stuff happens.
But so does good stuff!
Congratulations on the PB BC!👍The picture isn't bad either!😀
Well done. Such a lovely post. You are right, a PB once in a while is such a boost. Best wishes!
Lovely photo , a personal best, and triple chocolate brownies, it doesn't get much better than that 😊
Well done BC! 💪🏽
Doing Wynyard 10 miler on March 29 if you fancy it 😁
Did you edit in the 10 miler or did I just blot it out 😊. 7 weeks since I did 10 miles; Wynyard may be a bit too soon.
Hi..... I'm doing wynyard... Could this be the same one?? Wild 🦌 events? I initially signed for 5 mile as wasn't sure If I'd manage 10..but after Derwent Reservoir I know I can, so I've asked if I can change my booking. Hopefully it's the same one u r doing 👍😊
Lovely post, run and photo Beachcomber. 👍
Wow! A good morning indeed! Brilliant! And t shirt only 😊
You are right to feel ridiculously pleased with yourself BC and deserved that flat white and triple choc. Taking pretty much a minute off your 10k time is brilliant especially when it had hilly bits! I’m still aiming for sub 60 as well. Latest challenge? Never imagined Middlesbrough could look so dramatic 😂
And a beautiful photo! 😊
Ah u r back id say! 😁😁. Excellent run and that photo is just amazing.
That’s inspiring BC thank you for posting and super well done on that PB.
That's really inspiring...well done you! 🤗And a stunning photo. 😊
I'm very much in favour of your post run serenity routine BC 😋
Glad you had such a great run, it's been hard to stay positive with all this rubbish weather, a sunny day or two works wonders. As does a fab photo to cheer us all up 😊
Love the bottom lip comment. Great PB and lovely picture. Thanks for sharing.
